Yes. Intel Core i7 “Coffee Lake” processors are compatible with any motherboard that has both an Intel 1151 socket and a corresponding Intel “300” series chipset. The ASUS z370 and z390 motherboards contain a “300” series chipset as denoted by the number 3 in the model number. As an example, the ASUS z370 is compatible whereas the z270 is not compatible and the z390 is compatible whereas the z290 is not compatible. Note that a motherboard with an Intel 1151 socket alone is insufficient; there must also be an Intel “300” series chipset.

Question 3

Would a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V7S2T0B/AM fit on this motherboard in any way? If not, any other good alternative 2TB SSD that would?

Well the 970 EVO MZ-V7S2T0B/AM is simply a NVME-type connection so yes it would fit and connect through the appropriate PCI-E slot. It would not necessarily "fit on this motherboard," in any other way that I know of. Ensure that you understand how to implement this style of drive before buying, it may be easier to understand and start with the classic SATA connection type 970 EVO. There are plenty of standard SATAIII connections on the MoBo that run at a throughput of 6GBs.

does the m.2 card slot work properly? I have the z97-A and the slot doesn't work as intended

Yes. I'm currently using the lower slot with a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB as a boot drive and have been for over a year.

I previously had a Z97-A USB 3.1 board from ASUS. IIRC those m.2 slots only function in SATA mode due to the limitations of the chipset.

Question 6

How hard is it to get a sound card, PCIe 3x1, if you have two NVIDIA cards? I see the cards take two slots, the sound card takes 1, is it possible to take the second small pci slot, and have the two video cards on either side? Or is it easier to have the two cards, in the first and last slot, and the sound card in the middle? Does all three slots support SLI and doesn't matter in what slot the video card is in? I really want the creative labs sound card, but don't want to run into the problem of it not fitting. I guess my question should be, how hard is it to fit smaller pci cards next to the video cards, 8GB or bigger type?

I don't understand very well your point, but I have this motherboard, with two graphic cards and the sound card installed. I had no troubles with it. And the graphics are in their own slots as they're supposed to be. Make sure you have a good and reliable power supply for everything to work properly.

Yeah it will, motherboard size doesn't really matter when it comes to that, all that matters is that your case can fit the GPU. But if it makes you feel any better I've got a 1080ti FTW3 on it and that's a fairly long GPU.

This board supports 2 M.2 storage devices running over NVMe.  Both slots run at x4 bandwidth, however the second slot shares bandwidth with the SATA_2 port.  Please note if you use this slot, the SATA_2 port will be disabled.

It’s a 1151 socket board and your processor is also 1151. So yes it will work. Love my board so far.  The RBG isn’t crazy bright if that’s what you’re going for. I think it’s just the right amount of color combo.

No.  It has the mounting holes for one.   Most Intel CPUs don't come with coolers anymore so you'll need to buy one.
