Pros: Used for my HTPC. Still screaming alone. No hiccups. on 24/7. Just amazed at how rock solid this system has been.
Cons: none
Pros: Still Runs
Cons: 0
Other Thoughts:
GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI
GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI
Athlon 64 X2 5000 Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2
Kingston (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-Bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Pros:
Onboard HDMI (for April 2008)
Lot's of ports
Cons: Overheated easily requiring a good dusting a few times prior to restarting.
Other Thoughts:
This was purchased for use as a HTPC and torrent box in the Silverstone LC19 case. Last night the onboard video locked up during a 1080p x264 movie and never came back after reboot. It was starting to show snow and other distortion when any video was placed on pause including iMDB previews. Over the last few months the majority of movies played have been 1080p x264 and this probably took the NB over the edge.
I can still access the system using remote desktop for torrent work, but even using the system as networked storage to play video across the gigabit network causes stuttering playback when I've been able to seamlessly play 1080p x264 video from a USB 2.0 external drive from the other side of the house.
To be fair, the LC19 case and the confined shelf below the 50" plasma didn't allow for the best air circulation. Also, I have a 65W CPU and should be using a lower-power one since this will just be performing video playback and torrent work.
Pros: Working fine for last 4 years without any issues.
Cons: None.
Pros:
-Great setup for a mATX
-Wonderful BIOS
-Good company
Cons:
-High northbridge temp (83-95 Celsius)
-Temp sensors are a little wonky, some say the NB sensor is 20-25 deg too high but i think its spot on, just runs too hot.
-Sometimes the CPU and NB can get a little hot together when playing HD material, but a nice case fan and some smart tweaking can fix the problem.
Other Thoughts: The northbridge is actually made to run that hot. Youll proabably see on forums that people are complaining about how hot it gets, but GB fitted the board with a bigger heatsink on rev 1.1, and that is what this board is. Still runs hot but aparantly it's supposed to and i have had no probles at all. Conveniantly boils my water so i can make tea.
Pros: good for the money great overclocking ablility lots of functions for overclocking
Cons: thermal past had the board runinig a little hot
Pros: Everything I needed is built into this board; I have a system with no addon cards whatsoever. The video performance is adequate, feeling roughly equal to the 6600GT it replaced. With a 4850e X2 CPU, 2x2GB Corsair RAM, and a 80+ PSU, I have a system that idles at 50 watts at the wall socket. That includes 2 older hard drives; with one newer 'green' drive idle consumption could be down to near 40 watts for a complete system.
Cons: Windows XP will only recognize 2.75GB of the 3.5GB available for system RAM. (4GB installed, minus 0.5GB for video RAM.) This is Windows' fault, not the motherboard's. Since the RAM was only $25 after rebate, it's really hard to complain.
Other Thoughts: This was a drop-in replacement for an old Asus A7N8X; I replaced the motherboard/CPU/RAM, reusing all the other bits (drives/case/etc.). I didn't even have to reinstall Windows. I have not yet tried the HDMI out. I plan to, and assuming that goes well will probably buy another board and build a MythTV box out of it.

Pros: Great board with small power consumption and lots of options. Can easily be used for lower end gaming like I have or an HTPC.
Cons: Nothing that I can think of.
