"Good enough" motherboard

Pros: -Bios is easy to set up
-Has more than enough RAM slots
-Supports SLI
-Has a nice upgrade path for weaker systems

Cons: -Doesn't support Crossfire
-Heatsinks are annoying for installing larger things
-Ram is too close to cpu for cooler mounting
-the pci slots feel very fragile

Other Thoughts: If you can find it for under $30 I'd say it's worth it. Been used since it came out and is still working.

Excellent motherboard

Pros: -Stable
-Good OC options
-Good features on IO panel

Cons: -Chipset fan is loud but my system crashes if I unplug it.

Other Thoughts: This is a great board that I purchased in 2007 and am still using today! For nearly 9 years it was equipped with a Core 2 Duo E6400. Recently I bought a Core 2 Quad Q9400 on a popular auction website just for grins.

Anyways, you won't be able to find this anymore. Just wanted to leave a positive review after all these years of use!

Great Board

Pros: This is a great board, especially for the price. The heat pipes are relatively unobtrusive, and there is plenty of space on the board, meaning I had no problems fitting anything. Ram slots were far enough away from the CPU slot to fit my very wide zerotherm CF800 92mm cooler.

Cons: Heat monitoring software that comes with the board has a very loud alarm. Wouldn't usually be a problem because most people would like to know when their cpu is overheating...however, the zerotherm CF800 I have runs at a very low speed. The program monitors CPU fan speed and assumes that my fan is running too slow to cool the CPU properly (even though it usually keeps it below 30c) so I can't leave the software on if I want to do anything without noise.

Other Thoughts: The front usb plug was in a slightly odd spot, making me have to weave the cable around components to get to it.

Good, but the PCI-e 1x slot has issues...

Pros: Great board over all. Has served me well for a long time, in both Windows and Linux. Plenty of slots for a boat load of RAM. Nice LGA 775 socket supports a lot of slick processors. All in all, I love it.

Cons: The whole Nvidia fake-raid thing is a pain in the neck. It was a nightmare to get it working in Linux, and I had to scavenge a floppy drive to install drivers for it with windows. I tried to get a 3Ware card instead, but the PCI-e 1x slot I was gonna use is lined up with the RAM release levers. When I try to drop the (rather long) 3Ware card in, it hits the levers. 13mm too long... so close!

Other Thoughts: Its a shame that such a glorious piece of electronic design would have a physical layout issue. I may be able to drop the card in the PCI-e 8x slot (which is normally used for SLI), but it seems like a waste to put a 1x card in an 8x slot, while leaving an actual 1x slot open!

Beware

Pros: none

Cons: After multiple tries, It POSTed once and that was it. I replaced it with an ASUS which POSTed on the first try with the same components and has been working like a champ since. Maybe this product is good when you don't get a defective unit but this same problem has happened to enough people to be catious about buying this board

Other Thoughts: The processor I used is a 65 nm so that's not the source of the problem as some have suggested.

"45nm compatable"

Pros: First I will start by saying I put "somewhat high understanding" . I know every wants to claim they're a pro. I have 2 degrees in Computer science. But still seem to learn something new every day.
Anyway, this board is more than compatable with the new chips out. I have tried it with both Dual 45nm and the quads. Bios update and all was well. I like the new half multi in bios. I have two of these boards and have recomended them to quite a few customers with a tight budget, and to people who just want a stable sli board.

Cons: I was hoping the new bios would have the option to save bios favorites, because I do not use the Dualcore-center for anything but monitoring through windows. The whole private, captain thing is a funny and a sure way to freeze your board up 9 times out of 10. I like to O.C. in the bios anyway

Other Thoughts: For the few flaws this board does have. The new bios has improved the temp monitoring.
To anyone interested core-temp last I checked is not accurate with the 45nm chips as it doesn't set the T-juction right . Real-temp is very accurate with them as the T Jmax on the new E84-500 chips is 95*.
Alot of people are wondering why their themps went highier with the new bios and chips. The answer is they where not accurate before. Previous bios had my E6750 O.C.ed to 3.8 Idle 15* load 34*. New more accurate bios with a E8500 O.C. ed to 4.6 (water) idle 34* load 56*. If you do your research intel chips are not built to give very accurate idle temps. Why is every one turning off eist. With this board an e8500 o.c.ed to 4.5 two 8800gt's all watercooled, 3D-mark-06 26,000. All synthetic and real worl tests just a hair under the new NV 790 chipset. With the Nahelem around the corner and a new platform in October. I wouldn't be spending to much on soon to be obsolete harware.
