If I buy this board which has onboard video connectors and I get a AMD RYZEN 7 1700 CPU - do I need to buy a graphics card to make this work?

The onboard video ports are going to be used for the lower-end APU series  processors that AMD will come out with later this year. The Ryzen R7/R5 chips do not have integrated graphics. So Yes you will need a separate graphics card if using an R7 CPU.

How to find BIOS version on motherboard without turning it on? Any way to find from Serial No or written on board itself somewhere?

As far as I know you have to get into the bios to see it. I have never seen one on the board. You can look to see what version they shipped with but that's about as close as your going to get without actuality booting into the bios.

Question 3

Would this work with Ryzen 5 2600x?
Box says Ryzen 2000 compatible. But the barcode on board says  BOC 3803 indicating 3803 BIOS.
Ryzen 2000+ needs 3904?
Is it possible that barcode on board is not updated, but still they have updated BIOS hence the sticker on box Rzyen 2000 compatible?

Sorry, tapped the wrong button.  Ryzen 5 2600X is supported since 3904, but 3904 was never generally released- they went from 3803 to 4008. Current BIOS  revision available is 4014. I expect it will POST just fine with 3803- Just update to the latest as soon as you power up for the first time and you should be good.

I'm considering switching to this from a MSI board to get the ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3, but I notice a comment saying a BIOS update failed and they have to RMA it.. Does it actually have a BIOS recovery method or not? (https://www.newegg.com/Product/SingleProductReview.aspx?reviewid=4903837)

there is no dual bios recovery method, or any specific kind of bios recovery. But I've updated the bios 3 times with no problems. I did the update in the bios from a usb drive.

Question 6

Just assembled the board. Using 2400 speed ram - 64GB. No video using HDMI port on MB. I get one short beep - then I get 1 long beep and 3 short beeps.  What am I doing wrong?

The video output connectors on this motherboard are there for when AMD releases processors with integrated GPUs. The first generation Ryzen chips don't have GPU, so a discrete video card is required.

Have the bios updates fixed memory incompatibilities?

I'm using the latest BIOS (0502) and it still detects the wrong speed settings for my RAM.  I'm using memory modules specifically listed on the manufacturer's website as being tested with this motherboard.

No that processor is made by Intel who uses a different socket type. AMD chips have pins on the chips, while Intel has the pins built into the motherboard, plus many other physical differences.

It will require a BIOS update to support that processor depending on which BIOS version your unit is shipped with. Unfortunately we are not able to tell which version it will be shipped with.
