Will this Mobo work with Intel Core i7-7700K cpu?

Accepted Answer

No sorry the Asrock z370 Taichi only is compatible with Intels 8th generation core lineup currently. This might change in the future though. If you want a mother board that is compatible with i7 7700k you must get a z170 or a z270 motherboard for overclocking.

Question 2

I'm thinking of upgrading from an Asus Z87Pro with a 4th Gen I5 4670k  to the ASRock Taichi Z370, also getting an 8th Gen I5 8400  and upgraded RAM. Do you think it's worth it to upgrade? and I also have a Corsair Hydro Series H110 280 mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler.

I cannot make a direct comment on if the CPU upgrade is worth it, but I can say that I have been running my Taichi Z370 for two to three months now without any issues. The build quality is nice, the packaging was all closed-cell-foam which is the best imo. The UEFI/BIOS UI is very easy to navigate and I had no issues using the built in XMP profiles for my RAM. The only downside for you is since the 8400 isn't a "K" series chip, it can't be overclocked. The Taichi Z370 offers a lot of overclocking features that would be wasted. There may be a less expensive board that can give you the same results. But with the overclocking features, I suppose you have head room for future upgrades that may support overclocking. Hope that helps.

How is this board better than the Extreme 4?

The Extreme4 is a fantastic board and will have most features people will want. The Taichi takes it to the next level with more Ultra M.2 slots, built in wireless, an extra USB 3.1 port, and is running their Hyper BCLK Engine II. The BIOS/UEFI is also more rich with overclocking features.

That being said, I ran a LGA 1155 Extreme4 with a i5-2500k @ 4.7GHz for 5+ years until grabbing the Taichi for my i7-8700k and have to say the Extreme4's features served me well, no complaints about that board at all. It's also a great overclocking board.

Do I think the Taichi is worth it if you are not planning on overclocking everything to the extreme or not using M.2? Probably not. But, if you need to run wireless and don't have a wireless card, may as well go for the Taichi since a wireless card will run you about $50 anyways.

So overall, if you need the extra features or really want to perfect all of your component's OC'ing, and need to run wireless, go ahead and grab the Taichi. If you just plan on messing around with OC'ing here and there for your CPU, already have a wireless card (if you need it),  and don't need more than 2 M.2 ports, the Extreme4 is perfect for you.

Side note, if your case's color theme isn't blue, then maybe pick up the Taichi because it's RGB :P

Question 4

I am looking at installing optane memory in this motherboard.  I am not very familiar with optane memory, and I know the m.2 slots could be different from the optane NVMe slots.  I cannot tell by the picture if this motherboard supports the NVMe.  Does it?

This board has 3 M.2 slots. 2 of the slots, M.2_1 and M.2_2 "Supports Intel Optane Technology", from page 9 of my manual. This board is listed on the Intel Optane website too, so yes, the Optane will fit.

I did not use Optane, as I am only using spinners for long term storage. I am using 2 of the M.2 slots for SSD's and they have been flawless.

Using a M.2 slot for Optane will disable 2 SATA ports as they share lanes.

Question 5

Can I have all the 8 sata ports connected with hdds at the same time? It says that they share lanes but that is only if I connect a m.2 correct?

Yep. I have a hard drive in every sata port and am using M.2. I have a Taichi but went x399. So AMD. But yeah SATA ports mean HDs. Great board so far. Overclocked easy and running cool

Question 6

Is anyone getting coil whine in the front and rear audio outputs? It seems to be coming from the GPU but is somehow leaking into the audio outputs. Its very audible with headphones.

I own this board, and before i ordered it i saw quite a few people complaining about the issue. I decided to try my luck and bought this board anyways because I liked how it looked and because I wanted good power delivery for my 8700k. Unfortunately I too have the dreaded coil whine issue, and no one seems to have a solution. Its really mind boggling how something like this can happen on a premium board. Did they not do more than 2 minutes of testing with the on board audio? I'm highly disappointed... If it wasn't replacement only I would probably exchange it for a gigabyte or msi. Its not a good sign of overall quality when the audio doesn't even work properly

Will 3 gpus fit on the board with no issues? looking to make a gaming/casual mining rig.

Well this bord does have 3 full size pcie slots, if you are putting this inside of a case I would check you dimensions because your third slot will have issues unless it’s a single slot card. But conclusion if you want to mind even if you are casual get a cheap cpu mothbord combo with lots of pcie 1x slots.

Question 9

I see this board supports M.2 SATA raid, but does it support bootable NVMe raid 1?  Or will the performance drop down to SATA?  I want to get 2 x 500GB 960 EVO NVME drives and set them up in raid 1 for redundancy.

I know it does raid 0 with that setup, not sure about raid 1. IMO you would be better off using a single M.2 and use an external HDD for backup. Or use both 960’s in raid 0 plus backup HDD to double your storage and increase write performance. New M.2 drives are extremely reliable and very unlikely to fail, plus it’s cheaper to get a HDD for backup vs. 2 960’s.

Question 10

Will I be able to use this motherboard as a pass through to hook up my PS4 to the internet?

It depends on the OS you are using.  In Windows you can use a feature to Bridge one of the ethernet adapters to the one you are using as a primary connection.

There are similar methods you can use in Linux, but all of these methods require configuration in the software/operating system.
