Do the fans face the bottom of the case? The picture made me think the fans were on top.

They face the bottom of the case -  it is somewhat misleading, but only b/c they are trying to display the best image of their card w/it's cooling fans.  It does seem odd at first, but it is pretty much the standard setup on most video cards.  If you imagine installing it by looking at the image then 1) for the ports to be available on the back of the PC  2) for the card secured to the case w/screws, and 3) for the PCIe interface to be facing your motherboard PCIe slots, you will quickly realize that the fan side is on the bottom of the card.  Hope this made sense & was of some assistance.

When you install a video card it takes over video rendering for your computer. No matter what video card you purchase, as long as you have a video card in slot number one for video. It will take control of your video rendering. There will be no compatibility issues

The.best way to make sure is to call Asus.  I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.  I would still call to verify.  I believe on their website there is a tool to match up gpu's to mb's

This thing is running a bit hot for my liking at 75C - 80C at 100% load (stock speeds), 100% fan, and ambient temperature at 16C. Will swapping out the thermal compound help, and would doing so void my warranty?

Why don't you just send it back... Cause that is really weird, I have two of those and they never go beyond 65°C under load with fans at 60%

Yes it will all you will have to do is go to AMD's website and get the drivers for the card.
Here are two ways
Find the section that says automatically detect and install your driver, click on the download now section. or
Find the section on the latest AMD drivers and software and click on the one that is under Rx 580,570,560 and then click on the one that is your OS (windows 10/8.1 or 7)
