Internally are you using port multipliers. There have been reports that failed sata drives block all communication on the port multiplier ie one drive failure would take down all four connected with it until that drive is removed and would look like a four drive failure to the system.

Additionally if I where to connect four sata 300MB/s drives to a 8087 port would the total throughput for the drives be 300MB/s or 600MB/s?

Internally this card is NOT using port multipliers

There are *5x Marvell controllers each directly enabling a pair of ports; these controllers all share common onboard switch which bridges directly to the PCIe bus via the chip under the heat sick on the card that HPT customized for the occasion

Therefore, a single drive failure is precisely that - only a single drive fails; HPOWEVER, there are many storage utils in the unix world that "register ports" to track physical storage devices causing any 'one-to-many' physical storage configuration to not be correctly handled in event of a failure (none of which would be specific to this card)

not sure from where you're getting 300MB/s and 600MB/s

This card uses Mini-SAS II or/and SATA III @ 6Gb/s which equates to 768MB/s

If you connect *4x SATA II devices (3Gb/s|384MB/s) they'd still only have the 6Gb/s peak bandwidth available of the Mini-SAS II hub port
