Yes, I have it running on Windows 7 64 bit with no issues. Two different installs with no problems. I do not have my boot drive running off of it, only secondary data drives but should work either way. You are better off booting from the motherboard Sata anyway.

Question 2

Will this allow me to boot from dvd rw drive so I can install windows? My new mother board only had sata no ide on it and both of my dvd drive are ide.

I had to try it to verify since I had my system up and running with my SATA Blue Ray RW drive before I ordered it, but, I tested it to see.  It had no problem booting up from my old DVD RW Drive with my old Windows7 install disk.  So I see no reason you should have a problem.

Provided that your motherboard supports PCIe then yes it should work with XP.

Hi, I have a server running MS Home Server 2011 and have a Rosewill RC-230 already installed with 4 drives attached. Can I add this card to install an external storage device with 4 drives using the eSATA port? Thanks.

Yes you can use this card for external drives, but I don't think the SATA to eSATA cable comes with it. If not you might want to get one for your drive. This is an eSATA port not eSATAp so you might need a power source for your drive. I got this card for the IDE connector to install an old IDE drive in my Windows 10 machine and it worked great for my purpose. I have not tried the eSATA port. I don't see your MS Home Server 2011 in this list.

Hello, will this Raid Controller Card allow my computer to boot off a Raid 1 Partition that its managing ? I'm just looking for a modestly priced desktop RAID Card to achieve that goal.

If not do any of the SYBA PCIe-x Raid Cards allow for this ?

I think here are Still some Older Adaptec Raid Cards floating around on eBay and such that allow for this, even if only at SATA II speeds...

Is it software raid versus hardware raid issues ?

Depends on if the BIOS or UEFI environment support booting to non integrated disk controller or not. This device is capable of being a boot controller but the actual dependency will be your motherboard.

A driver and utilities disk is provided with the card. Instructions for installation are provided and easy to follow. I installed the card on a windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and Linux (Fedora 20) dual-boot system and it works great on both operating systems. I mainly wanted it for an old 1-TB drive I had but I also use the external SATA port.

I have a Dell desktop running Win 8.1 Pro with a motherboard that has an Intel H61 chipset, (a) which I understand does not support AHCI, and (b) is only SATA II compatible. I have recently purchased a 2.5” SSD and would like to make that SATA III compatible (and, if possible AHCI compatible as well). How may I achieve that? If I install this  PCI-Express 2.0 Controller Card (available on Newegg), into a PCI slot on my computer and then connect the SSD to this controller card (or to the motherboard, not sure what would plug into what), would it make my SSD, SATA III compatible? Also, would I need to upgrade the cable that connects the SSD to the motherboard/PCI controller card? Thanks.

Hey Dravid,

Once you install this card, you can plug your SSD directly into the card using the SATA cable you already have (some SATA cables are rated for higher speeds, but this doesn't mean anything in practice unless you have incredibly low quality cables).

This will give you SATA III as well as AHCI compatibility. I bought this card for precisely the same reason as you and it works like a charm! I highly recommend this card—it's pretty much the best you can get for the price.

Since nobody uses Win98 anymore, you'll have to ask this question of Syba. I think it unlikely that Win98 will support ANY PCI-e card. Win98 was becoming extinct when PCI-e was first released in 2003.
