All the fancy components you install in your system won't matter if you don't have a PSU that delivers clean, consistent power. That's where Corsair comes in with their 450VX. This single rail design can pump out 33A/396W of +12v power for all your power hungry components. Certified 80 Plus, this unit runs at up to 85% efficiency and 99% Active Power Factor Correction to provide clean reliable power to your system.
The PSU comes with extra long cables for use in full tower cases, making it easier to route cables neatly so they don’t interfere with air flow. All the cables are mesh wrapped for a clean appearance and reduced air resistance so your cooling fans work better.
ATX12V v2.2 Compatible Compatible with the ATX12V v2.2 standard, the Corsair CMPSU-450VX power supply provides maximum power stability to drive the latest Intel and AMD processors as well as other system components.
450W Maximum Power A maximum power of 450W delivers safe, reliable output for high-end computer systems.
Highly Efficient Providing up to 85% power efficiency, the CMPSU-450VX power supply saves energy and may even reduce your electric bill!
Pros: might be a little late to heap praises now but its been powering a gaming PC in use since 2008 nearly 24/7 and still going strong well into its second build.
Cons: its lasted so long it makes me worry about when it finally fails and i have to replace it.
Pros: I never really have very power-hungry hardware, so I didn't need the most powerful PSU. I've had this model since early 2008 (yes, 6 years!) and it's never failed. Originally used it with an Athlon X2 240/HD3870 and then a Phenom X2 555/HD6850 setup since 2012 and still going strong and quiet.
Cons: A lot of people seem to have reported buzzing noises. I haven't experienced any of those, so maybe I've been lucky there. It also only comes with a single PCI-E 6-pin plug instead of an 8/6-pin combo plug, but really if you're going to have a graphics card pulling enough power to need an 8-pin connector you should probably get a higher-power PSU anyway.
Other Thoughts: When (if?) this thing finally dies I'm definitely going to look at another Corsair model.
Pros:
- 4 years later and still working
- Easy installation
- Quiet
Cons: - Non-modular
Other Thoughts: No issues out of the box and still plugging along after 4 years.
Pros: none.
Cons: dead in 2 years.
Other Thoughts: RMA to corsair took 2 weeks.
Pros: I have had this for almost two years now and not a single problem with it. IMHO Corsair is in the top 5 for best quality PSU's, you won't go wrong with this brand. High quality components that last.
Cons: none at all
Pros: The cables are protected and are nice. It works fine.
Cons: Too expensive for only 450W.
Other Thoughts: Despite what the name says, I wouldn't recommend only 450W for an i7 system, unless you plan on having a less than gaming grade graphics card. Good for a basic home user PC.

Pros: Silent, reliable, lots of connectors. I've had this in my HTPC since February of 2009. I bought it new for this purpose when I built the new machine. It's powering an Athlon II X4 630 @2.8GHz w/ 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3, + a gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H mobo, + AMD HD 6450 + Ceton InfiniTV 4 quad HD TV tuner + WD 500GB Black + WD 640GB Green + WD 2TB Green + LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD/DVDRW drive all housed in a Silverstone LC10B-E HTPC case. It's been running 24/7 the whole time. It's allowed to go to sleep and wake for recordings and maintenance. It's been a super-great buy. I paid $79.99 way back when.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I have had a great experience with all Corsair products.
