Is this device compatible with windows 8? I've tried to hook it up to my laptop running Windows 8 but there's no way I can make it work. Please help me with this. Thanks a lot

I was able to get this to work with my Win8 laptop using the SATA port, I have not attempted to use a USB connection. Obvious things to check would be that the drive is inserted properly into the docking station and that the power button has been pressed to turn on the docking station.

Can it handle a hard drive that is 4tb?

Oh yeah...I have a full 4 x 4TB configuration......

Does this dock support using a SSD or just HDD?

It supports any SATA drive with a SATA connector. Do note that if you are using the USB connection, your throughput to/from the disk will be limited to the max for USB 2.0. (480 megabits or 60 megabytes/second)
