Does it have a on/off switch? I only want it running when I run backups.

Kenneth, Yes there is a power switch located on the back just below where the power plug is inserted. But if there was not, the user could just as easily remove the power plug connected to the HD enclosure as well. Have fun,

Does this support 4 TB drives?

I can not say for sure, I know it works on 1.5 TB, and with that on initial connection I found it took a bit for it to read and set up all the files so you could see it all, I kept expecting it all to appear in a flash, but it took my file that had almost 3/4 of a TB about 3 minutes to finally appear and be readable, after that it was as any and would pick up immediately not sure if it was just the reading of XP by Windows 8 or what but it worked and saved all 18 months of photos.

Is this drive compatible with Win8?

This enclosure will work on any system that has USB or SATA capabilities. All versions of Windows will recognize this enclosure.
