What ODD and SSD/HDD drives do you recommend? What additional equipment do I have to buy (cable, Adapters)?

You should be able to put in any slim SATA optical drive.  I bought an Intel Slim DVD because it was on sale at the time.

Any 2.5" SATA drives should fit; hard disk or ssd.  I put in a Mushkin SSD and a Western Digital Blue-series HD.

You shouldn't need to buy any cables or adapters unless you have special requirements for placement in your case.

Note that this part is slightly deeper than the typical short optical drive that most tiny cases are designed around, these days.  Check the dimensions of the available space in your case and compare to the specs on the product's page to make sure it's going to fit.  Mine was a bit snug; there was some scraping of the metal during insertion into the available bay and I needed to apply some force to get it in the right spot, but it fit.

I have on old MSI GX610 laptop with a DVD-RW optical drive that I'd like to salvage. Will it work with this Backplane Module?

Without having  ever seen the MSI Laptop DVD/RW it would be hard to say if it would fit or not.     If you have it out of the computer, take a look at Item#: 9SIA0AJ3T50838.   If it compares to that then it might work.     The CD/DVDs in laptops usually have ribbon cables or some other method of power/data connection.     The LG Burner has what looks like the standard SATA connections but it requires a special cable that has to be purchased.     NewEgg has them.     All of the DVD Burners I have are Samsung Slim ODDs.   I use them in the small ITX based cases where space is at a premium.    I hope that this helps.
