I am not sure If I understand the question but, 4GR means 4 gigabytes.   Usually this is found on the label.  Sometimes you have to take the module out of the system board to see the label.  If there is no label look for a model number on the module or you can google the chipset on the modules and find out how much ram there is on a module.  The system can also tell you; if  your system shows 4gig  of ram  and you have 2 modules then you have 2 2 gigabyte modules.

If you are upgrading a system you need to go to the web site associated with your system (ie; dell or hp) and look up the model of your computer system.   Try to drill down on the web site until you find a service manual that will tell you the maximum amount of ram and what type of ram you can install.  Some systems require matched pairs.  In other words, if you are going from 4 to 8gig PC2 6400 and you only have two slots you will have to install two 4gig modules that come as a set.

Another Example;  an hp dv2000 laptop can only hold 1 gigabyte of  ram in a 2x512meg configuration.   In other words 2 512meg Sodim DDR pc2700 modules is all that can be installed.  It will not accept 1 gig modules even though you are installing one module for a maximum of 1gig.

Bottom line, go to the web site associated with your system.  Sometimes memory configuration apps like the one at Crucial are not as accurate as the service manual.
