will this product work in my "Early 2011" 15" MBP?

According various web sites that chip should work on a 15" MBP either i5 or i7. Mushkin has a good rep on the web. I got a bad chip in  my first order for an iMac 27" but NewEgg promptly replaced it with no problem. Other World Computing web site has a lot of compatibility information on most Macs.

I'd say "no".

Macs are very particular about their memory and sometimes the incompatibility comes from the timing even though the memory has the right physical form factor and is the correct type.

Try to find memory that explicitly says it supports 2009 iMacs or older.  You can do that by browsing the memory on NewEgg, but also by doing a Google search for memory compatible for your model.

I have an IMAC from 2013 MODEL#  A1311  100  240V - 50-60GH  4.0A.  It has 4 memory slots, each of which accepts
a 1333 MHz DDR3 memory module.  There are 2 mg ram in each slot to total 4 mg.  and 2 slots empty.  Can I fill the empty 2 slots with 8 megs each, totaling 20 mg of ram?  It says it can go up to 32.

But which memory card to get?  The instructions say to Use Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules (SO-DIMM) that meet all of these criteria:
PC3-12800
Unbuffered
Nonparity
204-pin
1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM

Hey Lance,

You'll need to get cards that are PC3-12800 (not these PC3-10600 cards) for your iMac, since, amongst other things, this spec determines the memory and I/O clock speeds for the memory bus.

You say in your query that you have 1333 MHz cards installed, but I think that that machine only accepts 1600 MHz cards, so you may want to double-check that in the "About This Mac" menu.

If on the outside chance that you DO have 1333 MHz cards installed, and your system is working correctly, then you should definitely stick to cards with the same spec (i.e., either 4x 1333 MHz cards, OR 4x 1600 MHz cards, but NOT 2x 1333MHz and 2x 1600 MHz cards).

As to the card pairings, most systems will work just fine as long as you install matched pairs in slots 1 and 2, and slots 3 and 4, so you should be good to go once you verify the type of memory that is currently installed in your machine, and match your new sticks to that spec.

No, they will not work in 2007-vintage machines. These modules are DDR3, so the keying notch is in a different place for starters. Also these modules are timed at a clock frequency of 1333 MHz.

For Apple machines built in 2007, you will need DDR2 (PC2-5300) modules which have a clock speed of 667 MHz.
