Is this card the exact same as the Gaming ACX 3.0, other than the clock speed?

Accepted Answer

Yes. This card is the same as EVGA's ACX 3.0 version of the GTX 1080 except the clock speeds. With this card, you are guaranteed the advertised clock speeds while the regular version may not reach those speeds from overclocking.

Question 2

What color are the LEDs? Looking to build a black and white PC.

Accepted Answer

The LEDs for the SC are white. They light from the bottom and the side. The "SC" under the PCIE port is green, but I built a black and white PC and it doesn't seem to throw off the scheme at all.  I have an NZXT Hue+ kit as well and it makes the green "SC" really not noticeable at all.

Question 3

I want this version because its the cheapest but i'm a little worried about the temperature. I never bought a card with the fans tilted downward like that, how does it move air that way?

This is a pretty standard fan configuration. I'm not sure what you mean, I have owned dozens of video cards and the fans are almost always like this. It runs cool, this card is awesome don't worry about the heat. It runs at 1911mhz almost all the time, no problem.

Is this unit superior to the ASUS GEFORCE GTX 970?

Would you recommend getting this card or the founders edition?

Accepted Answer

All depends what you are looking for. Unlike the founders edition, the SC blows the hot air back into the case. Depending on your case this can be good or bad. The SC is also guaranteed to run at  higher clock speeds listed compared to the founders edition.

Is this unit a superior upgrade from an ASUS GEFORCE GTX 970 [which my son presently has]?

It depends on how you're going to use it. If you're doing VR or using a 144Hz monitor and/or playing at 1440p resolution or higher, then yes it's a good upgrade. If you're playing at 1080p on one 60Hz monitor it's not going to be as noticeable and you probably have most settings at max already. With this card I can also run some games at 4k with settings turned down a bit, to get close to maxing the setting out at 4k I would definitely need two of these even.

RGB?

No it's not RGB. It does light up in white if memory serves (I removed the cooler, I'm watercooling my computer).

Question 8

I have a 500w Mini PSU, I understand the spec say at least a 500w, but will I be jeopardising anything having the bare minimum?

Depends on what PSU you have, If your PSU is rated 80 + gold/platimun and nothing is overclocked, I think you'll be ok since most components now a days are pretty efficient in power use. If rated below those PSU ratings then you might be putting allot of load in the PSU, in that case it'll be best to upgrade to at least 700watts.

According to EVGA this card was supposed to be on sale on Monday June 13. Did you guys use sorcery to get it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, I did in fact use sorcery to call upon the power of NVIDIA and purchase one of these cards before they went out of stock.  You're responsible for anything that happens if you do this, but this is what worked for me.

All you need is a pint of blood,  one live animal (in my case a chicken), and a graphics card (the strength of the magic will depend primarily on the TFLOPS the graphics card can pull. Some people have suggested using more valuable livestock and there is some truth to this.  However the GPU is usually the bottleneck).

You can also add anything belonging to an AMD employee (either silicon or organic) to ensure ultimate strength, but I recognize this isn't an option for most people.

1) Start by spreading some blood around your GPU while chanting the contents of the legal info page on the NVIDIA website. (Links aren't allowed sorry)

2) Sacrifice your livestock over the GPU

3) Bag everything up

4) Blend/Smash/Whatever to try and get the contents as homogeneous as possible.

5) Cook over open flame

6) Eat a SINGLE piece of meat from the batch.  Be wary of any large pieces of material from the gpu.

So after you do this you should hear the Nvidia sound clip (You can find it on youtube)

If you heard it, then you did everything right and the GPU you want should come in stock the next time you log into your Newegg account. If not you can to try again with more potent ingredients.
