Does it come with software to clone it from another m.2 drive?

Not that I'm aware of.  I use other software to do cloning.  I use Macrium and it has worked great.  They have a free version that might work well for you.  But I have purchased it because I wanted the advanced features and use it for various things.

The interface says SATA, but it looks more like PCIe?

The form factor is M.2.  This is not to be confused with the bus interface, which can be PCI Express, SATA or USB (maybe others).  If you motherboard has an M.2 slot, you can use this product as a SATA drive.  I just built a machine with and M.2 motherboard and I used a 1T version of this as my main disk drive.

how come it says sata?

These drives are for older motherboards. My previous build had an AsRock X-99 Evtreme3 board that says this: "10 SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x4 & SATA3)" and could use these M.2 SATA SSDs or NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 SSDs. While my newest mobo is an ASUS ROG STRIX X-99 GAMING and it only supports PCIe SSD (the M.2 port isn't wired to the SATA bus). These are not the new NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 SSDs that are much faster. Look up the Samsung EVO 960 NVMe. They're much better if your mobo can accept a M.2 PCIe SSD.

what is the life span on this?

Check WD specs, if you can believe them.  They are often generated like UL ratings - by beating on some and extrapolating statistically so one can never say for  sure. I've been using it as the sole disk in a very fast laptop since purchase with no problems.  Time will tell, but as I understand it, these devices are fairly robust.  I don't expect to change this disk for the life of the laptop, which was brand new when I bought the disk.

Question 6

What is the actual capacity of the 1TB M.2 SATA SSD in usable GB? There seem to be two different actual capacities for "1TB" SSDs. One is approximately 946 GB, the other about 978 GB. Obviously, when using SSD clones for backups, the 978 GB will not clone onto a 946 GB. I've had to buy 1 TB SSDs and measure the capacity just to know if it is the higher capacity.

I put mine into an HP Z Book Workstation laptop.  It works great!  I would guess that it would work well in a Dell m6500, but can't say for sure since have never tried it..
