Immature tech 02/29/2008
This review is from: TomTom 4.3" Automobile GPS Navigation
Pros:
The tweakability of the interface is nice. Revamping the splash screens & map colors dramatically improves the godawful pastel aestehtics. The voice prompts are clear, the 3d map view is very easy to navigate by. The USB connection acts as a charger so there is no fear of powering down during updates as with some units. No additional SD card required.
Cons:
Living near the I-495 belt west of Boston, I have to drive 15-20 minutes on a clear winter day to get a signal. A cheaper Magellan unit had no such problems in the area. Kind of a major deal breaker. They charge for area maps..around $40Euro for the NE/New England pack. Not sure what value is there. The standard free maps of Cambridge, MA are not up to date after checking for updates. The map countours and road lines are all hard angles which looks a little cheap and 1980ish.
Overall Review:
You can see how this should be great tech, the implementation is just a little shoddy at this point though considering the cost.
