Poor Long-Term Quality 03/04/2008
This review is from: SilverStone ST60F 600 W ATX 12V 2.01 / EPS 12V SLI Ready Active PFC Power Supply
Pros:
Modular, sleeved cables, solid case construction, nice finish, quiet, Over Voltage and Overload protection.
Cons:
I bought this PSU for my build in 11/06. About 6 months after purchasing I came home from running an errand one day to find the computer off. The PSU had died. I RMAed through newegg, whose service is, as always, excellent. About 2 weeks ago I started noticing grinding noises coming from the PSU fan. Since the RMA/warrenty period had expired, I opened the PSU up to clean out the dust and look around. Today I had the computer case opened up again and realized the fan had failed! I'm going to try a fan swap, if that fails it's time for a new PSU from a better manufacturer like OCZ.
Overall Review:
The only reason this didn't get a 1 rating is because of the Over Voltage/Overload protection, which prevented my other hardware from being fried when this died the first time. When I purchased this it had a 5-star rating with no complaints about it. Now I see similar complaints of PSU and fan failure. I cannot believe that such a poor quality product is allowed on the market. I will never buy a Silverstone product again.
