nice looking keyboard for small spaces 03/14/2010
This review is from: Logitech K300 Black 101 Normal Keys USB Wired Compact Keyboard
Pros:
very compact. fits on a small keyboard tray with enough room for a mouse pad next to it.
orange backdrop and backlit media keys are aestethically appealing.
media keys visibly highlight (the media backlight brightness switches from "low" to "high") when you press the "FN" key that activates their functions.
buttons have a nice "click" feel to them.
logitech software splashes translucent "Caps Lock / Num Lock / Scroll Lock On / Off" messages when the status of any of these keys changes. the splash fades after about 1 second. this function only works in Windows, and only if the logitech software is installed.
like most keyboards, includes hinged feet you can use to adjust the keyboard angle up.
Cons:
laptop-style keys may not be very durable (i have serviced many laptops with broken or missing keys, so i would not be surprised if this similarly-designed keyboard experienced the same issue).
the "FN" key (which activates the media keys) is placed right where the "Windows" key would be located on a traditional PC keyboard. for the first several days of typing on this keyboard, i unintentionally hit the FN key many times while trying to hit the Windows key.
some keys (insert, delete, num lock, page up, page down, home, end) are not in the locations familiar on a traditional keyboard. it takes some practice typing on this keyboard before you get used to where everything is located.
Overall Review:
overall a great inexpensive keyboard for small spaces, and i recommend it. because the key layout takes some practice to adjust to, users with sufficient space should opt for a traditional keyboard instead.
