- DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500)
- ECC
- For Apple Mac Pro System
Works as designed 08/09/2011
This review is from: Kingston 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) ECC Mac Memory Kit w/ Thermal Sensors Model KTA-MP1066K4/16G
Pros:
Works as designed in early 2009 Mac Pro, now at 24 GB (4 x 4gb plus the original 4 x 2gb that came with the system). Stress tested for a couple of hours and more than satisifed with the heat levels. I am tempted to buy another set to replace the original memory taking me to 32 GB (the original system limitation), but this will more than meet my needs for a while. With the 8GB and 16 GB modules now available pushing the limits to 64gb and 96gb respectively, I will likely wait a few years for those prices to come down and for NewEgg to stock those parts. Being able to bring up all of my VMs at one time is outstanding, I finally have more GB of memory than processing cores... =)
Cons:
Slightly cheaper for simliarly guaranteed compatible components elsewhere; however, NewEgg has always taken care of me the few times I have RMAed items.
Also NewEgg generally does not go into bleeding edge components like the 16gb modules, but then again the market is limited and the price is not competitive at the moment.
Overall Review:
Great buy for owners of Mac Pro 2009 and beyond.
Nicely packaged, minimal waste.
