Beats EP121 06/03/2012
This review is from: SAMSUNG Series 7 XE700T1A-A02US 11.6-inch Slate
Pros:
-Intel i5 CPU - VERY few windows tablets have i5's, normally Intel Atom and AMD C-50/C-60 CPUs.
-1.6GHz - 270MHz faster than the EP121, I've yet to have found ANY windows tablet in the market with a i5 CPU at/above 1.6GHz
VERY light and thin - this is what I consider the ultimate ultrabook. I have a 1 year old laptop with a 13" screen, and I'd say the thickness of the screen is a large bit THICKER than this tablet, and think that all of the computer itself is IN the screen on the S7
-8 point touch screen & wacom active digitizer - 8 poinys on the touch screen is fantastic for multiplayer touch games(namely fruit ninja is a blast to play with some friends) and the active digitizer is really neat. I never thought I'd use it when I ordered it but have really came to love drawing and writing with it.
Cons:
-Pricey - it's a major premium with it's Intel i5,I'd really love to see a model w/o the active digitizer since I know a large crowd hardly uses it, if at all.
-Scratches easily - make sure you get a case. I put it in a bag with a couple books and it came out with a 1" scratch right onto the screen.
-No SIM slot - They unveiled a model with a SIM card the day after I ordered this..fantastic. I wouldn't have got it anyways, it's $300 for a SIM card slot!! WITH a 2 year contract!! Shame on you samsung!
-No discrete GPU - I know Intel HD Graphics 3000 is the standard for laptops but for the price a actual GPU would've been a dream(I've seen even the Acer Iconia W500($500) to have a discrete GPU, and a decent one at that! Sad...)
Overall Review:
If you upgrade to windows 8 and install the Intel HD Graphics drivers(for OpenGL support and further configuration) the screen will randomly rotate CONSTANTLY. I sat the slate on a flat table and it continued to spin. It's because the Intel control panel has a rotation feature of it's own which interferes with window 8's. You have to disable the device in device manager to fix this.
