5 out of 5 eggs Using three in a Bed & Breakfast 05/20/2013

This review is from: EnGenius ERB9250 Wireless N Range Extender

Pros:

These things setup quick and work beautifully. I installed three of these in a local Bed & Breakfast and I've only had one fail me and that was my fault. I set it up in a window and it overheated. EnGenius RMA'd it no problem. Took about two weeks to get the replacement.

Cons:

Yes, these will cut down your bandwidth by half. That is the nature of wireless networking. The half is only for each consecutive connection. i.e. the first repeater cuts half for each connection to it. if you apply a second repeater off the first repeater it will cut half of that bandwidth or a quarter of the initial connection to its clients. This is the nature of wireless distributed networking. The only way to combat this is with a MIMO (multi in multi out) router. MIMO will help maintain consistent connections better than most non-MIMO routers.

Overall Review:

All that said, if you have a full N wireless network with all 300Mb/s hardware, you really shouldn't have any issues with the bandwidth cut from a single repeater.
