4 out of 5 eggs Very nice colormetrically accurate monitor 08/02/2013

This review is from: LG 23" IPS LCD Monitor, IPS-Panel 5 ms 1920 x 1080 D-Sub, DVI, HDMI 23EA63V-P

Pros:

The monitor comes pre-calbriated for optimum Adobe sRGB color gamut. It is definitely nice to have 250 nits as every grey shade I have been able to make has been faithfully represented.
The pixel pitch is small enough that you don't end up with eye strain after several hours of viewing.

In my view this has the qualities of my old CRT professional level displays for graphic designs, but with less real estate requirement. I don't know how they managed to get all the colors in the gamuts using LED's, as these are notorious for tinting the color either to the red or green spectrum, leaving you with sad whites. LG did this somehow.

I have had no problem with ghosting artifacts while watching rapid video segments or while playing video games. Granted, my experience in these areas are limited.

Cons:

The monitor would be perfect as an entry level for graphics professionals if LG had managed to address the following weaknesses. At least in my opinion.

1) The stand is bouncy. Don't count on it as your method of support, or you will go batty! Invest in a good VESA desk mount. I have tried to address this bounce by tightening the stand screws, but they don't cut it.

2) The control buttons are EXTREMELY sensitive. It is hard to get the settings you desire due to the tendency to over/undershoot the desired mark. I also wish the "AUTO" light sensor was more sensitive. If you work through dusk into night the monitor is very bright.

3) Not really a big deal, but it would be nice to get a DVI cord with this type of monitor. Analog just makes the display seem worse than it is.

Overall Review:

I bought 2 of these. One for myself and one for my 76 year old father. He just loves it. The blacks are crisp and easy for him to read, colors show on the screen as they are printed by his inkjet printer, and it gives him plenty of room on his desk to work.
