Has serious flaws 01/30/2014
This review is from: SUPERMICRO MBD-H8SGL-O ATX Server Motherboard Socket G34 AMD SR5650 DDR3 1600/1333/1066
Pros:
The only pros I really see are the amount of memory it can hold and the type. DDR3 is definitely worth the price. It also has a lot of power plugs for internal fans. That was very handy when I was running 12 HDD's and a 12 Core processor.
Cons:
Let me start by listing them all:
1- Came with 1 out of the 2 LAN ports broken (Would find an IP and then lose it a few seconds later)
2- Motherboard MUST go through its boot up cycle twice with a RAID card installed (horrible design flaw)
3- It only works with a very select number of processors
4- The mobo buzzer doesn't help in anyway in telling the user what is wrong when something is. Its just a long piercing tone that doesn't shut up unless you reboot the machine.
Sadly I am not the only one that has has this problem with this board. I have had it now for 2 years...and just a couple days ago, I rebooted the machine, and it now won't even post.
Another con is there return policy. Even though they have one, its mountains of paperwork to only (MAYBE) get a refurbished one weeks later. Well I need a new mobo now, not in a couple weeks.
If you are thinking of getting this board, I highly suggest you DON'T. I am very angry at myself for getting it and now I can either wait a couple weeks and get a refurbished one or go and spend another $230 on a new one. Sadly the new one is sounding better...
Overall Review:
Other than the cons I mentioned, the board worked for the 2 years I have owned it. I just wish the cons would be fixed. A motherboard shouldn't be such a hassle!
