Update to Athena Power AP-MP4ATX40 Micro ATX 400W PSU review 10/28/2014
This review is from: Athena Power AP-MP4ATX40 400W ATX12V / MicroATX / SFX12V v 2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready eMachines, HP Upgrades/Replacement Power Supply
Pros:
Speedy initial delivery from Newegg
Newegg return policy & timely replacement.
I dislike posting a bad review even though I feel it’s deserved so I wanted to follow up with what I found.
Cons:
As I stated in my previous review I’ve tried two of these Athena power supplies. Last week, I ordered a different brand and installed it last Wednesday. The computer has been run 12-16 hours every day for a week without a single reboot. Even with the new Athena power supply, I had at least one reboot a day and some days multiples. I also added two new 3 TB hard drives in addition to my original 320 GB drive without the rebooting issue occurring. That problem appears to be solved by the new PS.
Overall Review:
Last week I stated that the Athena Power AP-MP4ATX40 needs better filtering. I mentioned the noisy supply voltage in my previous post. To be fair, I am able to detect similar noise with the new supply. The difference is I have to turn the volume almost full up to hear it. When the Windows 7 welcome sound played I thought my speakers would blow! The audio amplifier noise from the new power supply is undetectable at normal to moderately loud volume levels where it was quite pronounced from both Athena power supplies. 2nd problem solved.
