Question 1

When I copy any file above a certain size I get a prompt saying the file is too large for the destination file system.  The files are about 4 to 5GB each, and two are my important backup files.  I was able to copy those to another external HD.
Is there a way around this?  How can the HD not able to house the file if it has so much storage.  Thank you.

Ive transferred larger files than that, without problems, I have yet to encounter any since I purchased this external hard Drive unless your very close in space .If you use it as backup, drag and drop the file to computer and let the computer back it up automatically for you, check  later on cause its a  slow process but the safest kind of drive, then delete it from computer, I download SACD's and 3D Blue-rays and it backs it up no problem usually 4-8 GBS each file, Good Luck.

Is this a 5400 or 7200 rpm drive?

Check out the specs for the Toshiba Canvio 2TB, its the same model and firmware and the speed is 5400 rpm. They're both great drives. Plus like every external 2.5" I've got (the Canvio & ADATA are 2TB, The Seagate & HGST are 1TB) they are all SATAII drives and will take full advantage of the SS3.0, since the drives max out at the SATAII rate of 3gb/s not 5-6gb/s as a SATAIII drive.

Is this compatible for only PC or Mac too?

Yes it's fine for both PC and MacOS. It comes FAT32 or NTFS formatted which Mac should see, but you can also reformat in MacOS disk utility to native MacOS Extended Journaled for use with Time Machine. I have mine partitioned out in both.

Question 4

I want to convert and store my DVD's onto an external drive to stream to my Apple TV through iTunes. Will this drive work as a place to store and stream at a fast enough rate not to lag?

Hi, I have never been able to get a bead on the seek time of this HD.  I use it for external backup and it works great.  The response time is more than acceptable.

I am sorry but I am not able to give you an assessment of how well streaming would work with this unit as that requires more resources than I use with the drive.

It's a good price - you could give it a try and if worse comes to worse and it does not work for streaming, it makes for a good storage unit.

Question 5

Does the drive inside the case have a normal SATA interface, or is the USB3 soldered to the drive (like in a WD My Passport)? I plan to use this drive in my computer and put a different drive in the enclosure.

Yes, the hard drive's built-in SATA connector plugs directly into a SATA PCB interface, which connects to the external USB connector.
So, yes it will work for what you plan on doing.
