Turn the computer off, and then switch off the power supply (or "pull the plug"). Wait about 20 seconds. Optimal safety would involve a wrist strap, but never do that - I just touch metal on the case firmly, before beginning the SDRAM insertion. You push the white clamp "handles" down, then remove the old memory (if there was a stick in there), and then push the new one in:

Verify that you have the off-center slot matching the ridge in the socket (not backwards). Push it down gently, with both hands (I use thumbs), until the white clamp "handles" begin to rise a bit. Then, move one had to one of the white clamps, and the other hand to the end of the stick which is close to the clamp. With gentle pressure, push down that end of the stick - and pull the clamp up a bit, seating the clamp nodule partway into the end slot of the stick.

The do the same at the other end. And finally, use the clamps (one finger hand on each, pulling up) to clip the stick into it's final position. If you bought two sticks, I'd install just one first, then turn the computer on and verify that it works. Then I'd turn it all back off, and then install the other. On all really old motherboard, you _might_ have to go into "BIOS" setup and change the "RAM configuration" each time - but nearly all modern motherboards, capable of DDR3 will reset the memory configuration without going into "BIOS Settings".

Question 2

I have a total of 16GB of Adata DDR3 1600G V2 but have to remove two of the 4GB 'cards' because of constant crashes. This seems to solve my problem. Can I buy just two of the new modules or do I have to replace all of them?

You can just buy two, but the system will run at the SLOWEST speed of the four modules.

Memory rarely goes bad, I hope you went to the crucial or kingston site and tested your memory before replacing.  If your computer is a Dell desktop or other major manufacturer, if you press F12 while booting up it will go into test mode, and you can test all your hardware to find the problem.
