I am almost postiive it came with paste. I recently built a computer and did not buy any and we definitely had some that came with something. I am pretty sure it came with this and not the liquid cooler.

Yes, the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X can handle gaming and creative work. It also handles standard productivity tools well. I coupled mine with the GIGABYTE X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7. Couldn't be happier

Is the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X a good upgrade from a Ryzen 5 3600X?

It's a huge upgrade.  If you're looking at benchmarks, it performs almost twice as fast on single thread tasks, and roughly three times as fast in tasks that can utilize multiple threads/cores.

Keep in mind though - it's not a direct swap.  The 3600X uses an AM4 socket and DDR4 memory, while the 9900X uses an AM5 socket and DDR5 memory.  So along with the CPU, you'd need a new motherboard and new RAM.  Depending on your power supply, you might need an upgrade there too, although the 9900X doesn't consume too much more power than the 3600X (120W vs 95W) so what you have will probably continue to be OK unless you were running pretty close before.  You may also need a new CPU cooler.

There are very few chips that can do what this one does for less than $1,000 - so it's a very powerful chip at a great price point.

What motherboard and case can this fit into?

The Ryzen 9 9900X will physically fit into any AM5 socket. However, the motherboard must use a chipset like the AMD X670 or AMD X870 that is compatible with this CPU. In addition, the BIOS may need to be updated to support the 9000 series CPU. The case must be large enough to hold the selected motherboard and should come with good fans because the 9900X can generate 120W. My own setup is the ASUS TUF Gaming X670E-Plus Wifi AMD X670 ATX motherboard in the NZXT H6 FLOW Mid-Tower Airflow Case. For CPU cooling I am using the Cooler Master MasterLiquid 360 Atmnos ARGB Close-Loop AIO Liquid Cooler.
