Even better than I thought.

Pros: Lots of cores.
Lots of PCIe lanes.
Came with a torque wrench! Yeah! A torque wrench.

Cons: Does *NOT* come with a heatsink and fan. Does NOT!

See "other" listed below because I thought I would have some cons but I really don't.

Overall Review: I use my machine at 100% 24/7. I replaced an Intel Core i7-3960. I thought that this CPU would create more heat. It doesn't. I thought it would take a bit more power from the wall. It doesn't. This CPU is very big and very heavy. I work as a tech and I had to bring the CPU to work because I knew that I could not convey the weight of this thing. It's cool! I bought the Noctua brand TR4 air cooler which was the cheapest one I could find and it works great. It is slightly more powerful than my old CPU, uses slightly less energy and is roughly just as hot as the old CPU.

TR 1900X, The cheapest way to get TR I/O

Pros: On a Zenith extreme: Quad channel, 64 PCIe lanes, 3 M.2 sockets full Gen3 x4, WiGig, 10Gb LAN, 16x 8x 16x 8x PCIe sockets. No AM4 socket gives you these features. Upgrade path: 1920X/ 1950X/ 2920X/ 2950X/ 2970WX and ZEN2 7nm 24 core should work also.

Cons: NONE 6 months plug and play on the original bios.

Overall Review: Runs like a 1700X with the Threadripper I/O. Run G Skill 3200C14 at 3466C14 quad channel with two clicks in the bios. It is plug and play on every Linux Distro I've tried. In the future, the cheapest TR ZEN2 may be 24 cores and out of the budget builders price range. I got all the features of AMD's HEDT TR on a $300 CPU.

dropped prior to being boxed for shipping

Pros: none

Cons: retail threadripper box damaged prior to being packed for shipping
black cpu holder flopping around in retail packaging
internal damage to the thin colored plastic decorative plate thing
cant upload pics to show proof

Overall Review: don't use newegg to buy a cpu, looks like warehouse is careless with products, not damaged in transit as the brown newegg box showed NO damage and the retail cpu package was surrounded with those air pillow packaging materials which clearly points to damage occurring at newegg warehouse/facility. neweg wont authorize cross ship and expects me to eat downtime for claim return and replacement which is unacceptable on $300 item. wish I could upload pics to newegg so I can prove what im saying is 100% true. now I have to take the risk that the cpu is DOA because newegg already got my money and refuses to accept the fact that the item was damaged prior to being put into the brown newegg box. thankfully however, I can and will be uploading pics of the damage to forums, FB and outer social media outlets and informing people of my experiences with this purchase

Can't be beat for the price early 2019

Pros: Easiest chip install ever; the tray/slot system is great. Perfect for a starter build that can be upgraded later.

Cons: Bottom of the new gen chips, but not such a bad thing. Figuring out what cooler to use was a chore (went with Noctua.)

The best value CPU money can buy sometimes

Pros: I have been building computers using AMD since the Phenom days. I was on the X470 platform but was whelmed by the PCI_E configuration. I wanted to get into TR4 but the cost was prohibitive. I saw this on sale for $412.99 on Newegg and knew I only needed to find a MB to pair this with. I pared this with the AS Rock X399 Phantom Gaming 6 which is the cheapest TR4 board you can buy. I am going to list the pros.

1. 64 PCIE lanes:Means I have 2 Vega 64 in full x16, I have a Asus M2 Riser card that you can get for less than $80 and I am populating it with 4 Adata SX8200 PRO 512GB NVME drives. I already went in the Bios and made the 3rd slot 4x4x4x4. You see all the PCI_E lanes are wired at a full 16.

2. The installation of TR4 may seem daunting but in a lot of ways it is easier than X470. All you have to do is install the CPU into the frame push it down and then secure your cooler with screws onto the board.

3. I OC the CPU to 4 GHZ with just a quick update in the BIOS and I set the CPU to 1.25V and it is rock solid

4. Gaming is nice with this CPU and it is faster than my first gen R7 1700.

5. Quad channel memory works like a charm I have Gskills Ripjaws 4 3000 MHZ 15-15-15-36 and Gskills RIpjaws 3600 20-20-20-40 all working at 3000 MHZ 14-14-14-32 and there is no issues at all.

6. IF you do any kind of video editing this thing kills anything I throw at it.

7. Multi-tasking is excellent as I can watch Youtube, play a game, make a video and watch DC Universe all at the same time.

8. It is future proof with the 2nd Gen available and when the 3rd gen gets released I will probably go with the 2950X or whatever the 3rd gen will be.

Cons: There are cons and they are minor depending on your standpoint.

1. The AS Rock tuning program shows my CPU idling at 77 C forcing me to apply a less aggresive fan profile so that noise does not become an issue.

2. The cost is still high it was $769n for the MB and CPU.

Overall Review: I have to be honest and tell you that I was preparing for TR4. My case is the Thermaltake Core X9 and though cable mgmt is basically non existent the cooling potential keeps me system cool. ON top of the I have an Alphacool Eisbaer (paired with some Noctua Redux fans) 420 AIO that cools my CPU and one of my Vega 64 cards. Corsair Link and RYzen Master both show the CPU idling in the mid to low 30s and when gaming it gets to 65 C according to MSI afterburner. I installed Total War Warhammer 2 on the riser card and loading and turns are super fast now. Total War is my favorite franchise and it is the main reason I have a crossfire array. With this I get as high as 70 FPS in 3x3 battles at 4K.

Excellent power, stupidly over-packaged

Pros: Excellent value
Excellent performance
Excellent reliability

Cons: Stupid amount of "bling" in the packaging. It feels like I'm paying 10% for that packaging.... I'd be far happier if I got a CPU in an OEM builder box (just the CPU, in a tray, with a folded up piece of paper) than having to tear through all the packaging and throw it away.

Overall Review: Great CPU, I will be building more systems using this platform for sure. We use them for complex multi-threaded code which gobbles down terabytes of data and they gobble it up more gluttonously than any other CPU in the price range (by far)... but please get rid of the mountains of packaging. Save a tree or something ;)

So far so good

Pros: AMD has finally stepped up their offerings
overclocks well
runs cool with Noctua air cooler
dual channel memory

Cons: now I wish I bought the 1920x. this is a good starting processor, but I wish the budget would have allowed the purchase of the 1920x. It always comes down to budget and this cpu still does a great job.
Motherboards are pricey

August 2018
with the recent bios', after 0503, I have experienced sluggish mouse tracking in the bios. I use the MS 5050 keyboard and 5000 mouse offering. Just be aware that this might be an issue. Other than that board has functioned well after OS loads.

Overall Review: I run a lot of number crunching apps and they run smooth side by side with no bogging down. I replaced a Intel 2700k because it could not multitask well at all. This truly can multitask and it does it well. Not a gamer so I do not need a processor designed just for games. This Threadripper offering by AMD is a great improvement for us users that do more with our computers than play games.
Thanks AMD for not giving up on the Bulldozer idea and kept on refining until you produced this chip. The future is now bright for AMD
