Question 5

Does the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5955WX come with a cooling device?

Accepted Answer

No, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5955WX does not come with a cooling device.

Question 6

what motherboards are compatible?

Accepted Answer

In answer to your question, I hope this will help you:

ASUS Pro WS WRX80E-SAGE SE WIFI

It employs the sWRX8 socket and runs exclusively on the WRX80 chipset—designed precisely for Threadripper PRO 3000WX and 5000WX series processors. Engineered to “unleash the incredible power of the latest AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO series.”

GIGABYTE WRX80 SU8

While a formal CPU list may not explicitly list the 5955WX, it supports the sWRX8 socket and is purpose-built for Threadripper PRO CPUs—including the 3000WX family, which validates 5955WX compatibility.

Supermicro MBD-M12SWA-TF-O

Officially supports single AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX/3000WX processors via the sWRX8 socket, with a 280 W TDP allowance—perfect environment for the 5955WX.

GIGABYTE MC62-G40
(Also sold in a motherboard/CPU combo as MC62-G40-5955WX01)

Most sources referring to this board clarify it's designed for Threadripper PRO series (same socket/chipset environment). Given its platform alignment, it remains compatible with the 5955WX.

ASRock WRX80 Creator

Officially supports AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3000WX/5000WX series, including the 5955WX.

ASRock WRX80 Creator R2.0

A refined version of the Creator, also officially rated for the Threadripper PRO 3000WX/5000WX range (5955WX included)..

ASRock WRX80D8-2T

Supports AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5000WX/3000WX processors, explicitly naming the 5955WX in its CPU support list.

I personally own 4 Supermicro M12SWA-TF O motherboards and 2 ASUS Pro WS WRX80E-SAGE SE WIFI motherboards. The Supermicro board is presently rarer than unicorn droppings, so good luck finding one that's not sold by a scalper for higher prices. The ASUS board is a really nice, feature-packed motherboard, but it's VERY pricey. So you should do your research and find the board that best suits you.

Good luck in your search!

Question 7

What coolers are compatible with this?

Accepted Answer

The air cooler I use for both of my Threadripper Pro 5955WX systems is the Noctua NF-A15 PWM air cooler.
The heatsink has one Noctua NF-A15 fan mounted on it.
I highly recommend you add a second NF-A15 fan to the other side of the heatsink in a push/pull configuration.
I'm able to reach a 4.7GHz CPU boost using these Noctua air coolers.
The fan that's on it is a Noctua NF-A15 140mm fan, but it's got 120mm hole positions.
It comes with the metal clips to attach the fan to the heatsink. It is super easy to install.

If you're interested, here are the 2 parts to search for:

Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3, Premium-Grade CPU Cooler for AMD sTRX4/TR4/SP3 (140mm, Brown).
Noctua NF-A15 PWM, Premium Quiet Fan, 4-Pin (140mm, Brown).

As far as I am aware, it only comes in brown.

Enjoy your Threadripper!

Bryan
