Question 1

Does this sit flush with front of case when installed in the 5.25 slot? Like in a Lian Li case that has the removable front perforated pieces in front of each 5.25 slot......will this fit in and sit flush with front or will it stick out a bit as if you could read the VENUS logo on top? Hope that is understandable.

It fits exactly like an optical drive. If your case is normal the front plane will be flush with blanks and optical drives

Question 2

What is the measurement for the small fan slot at the back of the Rack?
Also, do I plug the fan into the motherboard/fan controller(Both seem excessive or is there another way it gets power and control?

The is a 2 pin header (0.1 inch) in a socket in the back side of the enclosure on the left hand side as you face the back of the enclosure. You can see it if you rotate the view and magnify.  The fan plugs in there with a 2 pin (0.1 inch) header socket connector, usually standard with the fan.  Fan size is 80x80 mm, very small. Fan should be +12 Vdc, usually all 80x80 are this voltage.

Question 3

It appears the front is beveled slightly....does this creat a gap at very front of case or is it optical illlusion? I ask because I want this to fit in case flush all around front  like an optical drive....and with that bevel it looks like there would be a small gap at front that would be close off about a half inch in.

Yes there is a very small shallow bevel and it does leave a gap however the case I built has an LG Optical drive just below it and the drive has a bevel as well so they complement each other - the tray is just a mm shorter than the LG drive face in width so there is a slight difference between these drives if you look closely but I can't imagine any functional issues and the tray works very well - I have 10 of these in service with NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER.

Question 4

I have two of these and on one motherboard the front blue light is on all the time and on the other motherboard the blue light only comes on when a drive is in it.  Otherwise both function normally; the blue light turns purple when accessing the attached drive in each rack.  Is the blue light supposed to always be on or only when a drive is in the rack?

I have three of these racks, two in external USB housings and one in a desktop computer case. With all of them the blue light goes on whenever power is being supplied to the rack, -whether there's a drive in it or not. Of course I only get a purple light if there's a drive present and it is being accessed.

The PDF spec sheet for this unit that's on the AMS website says that the blue LED is to indicate the power being on, not that a drive is present or not.

I also have one of AMS's multi drive racks (the one that lets you have four drives in three drive bay spaces) and on that one the blue LED only comes on if you there's a drive present. So maybe it's possible that some of the single racks are wired that way. Perhaps you should contact AMS to find out if that's the case.

Question 5

is the removable rack compatible with HDDs that are under 3tb such as a 1tb or even smaller hard drives?

Yes. I use one so that I may swap drives that contain the operating system. Each of the drives that I use is 250 G.

I suspect, but I'm not absolutely sure, that the connectors in the rack are simply pass-through connectors. If that's the case then I'd tend to guess that the rack will be OK with any drive that your computer will accommodate.

The rack in question looks very very much like a rack that I bought from Newegg some time ago. The latter rack is no longer available, but I have several in my main computer. I've used drives ranging from 80 G to 1.5 T with no problems at all in those.

Question 6

Is the front and rear pieces that are black colored made of plastic? or what? then is the front door piece plastic as well or someting else....like aluminum? I assume the side rails arae aluminum?
