Offering great value among quality power supplies, the Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 is ideal for a mid-range dual-GPU gaming system. Offering a reliable maximum 500 watts of power, this ATX12V v2.0 compliant PSU ensures ample power to your dual GPU system whilst being easier on your pocket.

Unique Dual Fan Technology keeps the SP-500 cool under the hottest action. This revolutionary technology uses two 80 mm fans (one in front and one in rear) to give you quiet, efficient cooling. The first fan (internal and intake) operates when the system starts up. The second fan (external), functioning as an exhaust fan, automatically switches on when the power supply heats up. Modular cable design lets you better organize your cables, so you use only those cables which you want. This streamlines the system and improves the airflow.

One Main connector (20 + 4 pin), one +12V Power connector (4 + 4 pin), two Floppy connector, six Peripheral connectors (4 pin), four SATA connectors (5 pin), and two PCI Express connectors (6 pin) ensure that all of your devices have enough power to spare. With a Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) of 80,000 hours, this power supply sure is long lasting. Industrial grade protection circuitry prevents damage from short-circuits, power overloads, and irregular voltages, and helps increase the life of the SP-500 power supply. Power to the player!

Died after 12 years of loyal daily service. RIP!

Pros: Rock solid performance in system after system after system

Cons: None

I guess I was one of the lucky ones!

Pros: My luck is usually never that great but this power supply lasted me a whole 12+ years!
I heard of the bad caps long ago but kept an eye on things such as voltages and the physical appearance of the insides.
I opened it up recently and yes there was more than one bulging capacitor, so out it went a couple months ago and I finally replaced it with a SeaSonic M12II 620., Great power supply for the money by the way!

Cons: Bad caps yes! But the voltages were all in tolerance & pretty stable to the end.

Overall Review: I may, or may not ever buy another Antec power supply again?
Well.. lets see the rebates!

Died right at 3 years

Pros: It was ok. I bought it locally. Likely to stay away from that shop bc his stock usually kills over just after warranty expires.

Cons: Should have more life than the 3 years. Honestly it's just a power supply. It's sole function is to supply power so giving specifics is futile.

Overall Review: Likely to try another brand. Fortunately I had an old spare that seems to be quiet and working at the moment.

Dead after 5 years,

Pros: Was a great PSU for 5 years, before finally failing to power on the PC once a load kicked in.

Powered a C2Duo E6420 @3.2ghz, 4 IDE HDDs and a Nvidia 8800GTS, being on 24/7, for a good amount of that time.

Cons: Always was a little noisy, and had it's random shutdowns which prompted me to replace it in my main PC with a Corsair unit.

I have PSUs that are over a decade old that still work flawlessly, I was hoping this would be another one as I relegate my old PCs to HTPCs or various servers. With this one now dead, I don't think I want to shell out for a new unit just to power my hobbyist web server/game host machine.

Overall Review: I guess you could say I got my money out of it, but as I said, I have a collection of PSUs far older that are still working, and had just as much abuse given to them. The whole reason I went with a brand like Antec was in the hopes that this would far exceed the warranty period. But then, they sure don't make anything like they used to, that's for sure.

5-6 Years

Comments: Six years doesn't seem to bad for a power supply. I was expecting a little better out of Antec though. I played a lot the PC it was running for about a year and then my kids played a lot. Most recently, it has mainly been running as a file server and application server. Considering that it ran mostly 24X7 and got a lot of use, I suppose 6 years is ok. I would have expected 10 years. This CPU was overclocked early on, so perhaps I put a bit of stress on it.

4th time is not the charm

Comments: The first power supply I purchased was dead on arrival. Antec replaced it quickly for me. The second lasted about a month before it started making a high pitched, whiny noise. Since my computer was in the room I slept in, I returned it. Again, it was under warranty and replaced quickly and easily. After a few more months, the noise returned. Knowing the drill, I returned it under warranty and got a new one in the mail. At this point, I wondered if I had spent more on shipping to return these than the cost of the power supply. Five years after my initial purchase, and 4ish after the last replacement, my power supply started making the whiny noise again. It's now out of warranty, and I couldn't be happier. I bought a Thermaltake one instead.

5 year shelf life.

Pros: Well it has modular wires. Heavy.

Cons: Almost killed me. Shorted out my motherboard, CPU, and graphics card in Nov 2010. 5 years. for an $80 PSU. but a $20 PSU is still rocking. Well they killed the idea that whats heavier must be better. And on testing. it really shocked me. Thankfully the GFCI was around.

Overall Review: Yeah if I had the money I'd sue them.

9 Months to psu death

Pros: This worked for only 9 months in a basic 939 system single core, 1 7600 nvidia card, 2 drives. It does have a 3 year warranty. I liked the modular cables, though they're extremely long this is good for my antec P180 case.

Cons: It broke. It cost me a lot at the time, and I don't have a receipt to get the warranty replacement.

Overall Review: At least it didn't fry anything else. Oddly it powers the fans and drives fine, but not the CPU. I guess that means one of the 2 rails is gone.
Currently I replaced it with an Ultra Series V psu. It was cheaper and it seems quieter and at least it works for me right now. Plus they have a lifetime warranty and I do have that receipt.
