how to I get the cloud recordings?

You have to install the Arlo app, go to library on the app and download recordings from there. The recordings are only available for seven days.

Is this camera compatible with the basic arlo system?

The Arlo Q works with cloud-storage and I'm fairly sure it does not integrate with any kind of base station.  The Arlo Q Plus adds PoE (ethernet), so perhaps it has that ability.

Do you need the base station for the Arlo q?

It doesn't have/need a base station, it is a camera that works stand alone, all you need is the camera and decent speed wifi internet connection. Very simple to set up with the phone app.

Question 4

I see a USB cable shown, But this is wireless except for power. Why the USB cable?

The usb cable supplies power only.  All data is wireless for this system.

Question 5

I see a wire.  Does this mean it has to have a wire back to the box?  Will this work on my current system or does this mean two systems?

This will connect to your current system, but arlo supports up to 5 devices. The wire is for power, this does not run off of batteries.
