Question 1

I just bought this kit because it was advertised as 100% wireless. The cameras are wireless of course. With the obvious exception of the power cord, I assumed the base station was also wireless, connecting to my router via wi-fi. I read somewhere where it actually must be connected to the router using a network cable. Is this correct? I would be disappointed if it were. Thanks!

The base station must be connected with an ethernet cable to a switch or a router to obtain internet access. I have found the wireless range to the cameras a bit less powerful than a wireless router to a mobile phone. That being said, I do like the camera system very much. Biggest drawback are the batteries, the life isn't that great. I recommend rechargeable batteries.

Question 2

I am interested in using this for monitoring a construction site - is the angle large and image quality high enough to view a large area?

I don't know the exact number.  But from my rough estimation, the lens angle is about 130 degree, which is pretty wide in the security camera products.  The image quality is very good and there is a setting in the APP that allows you to use higher resolution or longer battery life.  The image quality is HD resolution and is more than enough for my usage.  
I read somewhere that this is a perfect solution for construction site monitoring where electricity is hard to get.  I have done research and there is no any other truly wireless product in the market as of now (May, 2015).

Question 3

Can the data recording be directed to a local NAS to avoid the the cloud storage that require subscription services to increase the space/time limits?

Not at this time. There is a USB port in the back of the base unit... but unfortunately after some research and reading... it has no application yet. The Netgear Arlo manual states "More Features Comming Soon.." in regaurds to the USB port on-board. Also, no NAS, DVR, networked storage option available either.

Does this unit work with windows 10?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: This unit isn't configured through your OS.  It plugs into your router / switch, not your computer.  It has it's own IP Address, MAC and functions off of it's own Firmware.  You access it though the Arlo website.

Doesn't matter what OS you use: Windows, Mac, Ubuntu... as long as you use a compatible browser.  So far, out of everything I've tried (IE11, Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Android...) the only browser that has issues accessing / manipulating the Arlo site is BB10.

Question 5

Is there a way to hook up to a cellular hotspot? My issue on my jobsite is I don't have internet. Therefor no router. I added a hotspot to my line, however I can't get it set up. Do you have any suggestions or answers?

well the box from the setup would have to be connected to the hotspot continuously, therefore the passcode on the hotspot would always need to be the same...   I would guess it would work, needs full time connection to be of any use.

DOES IT WORK INSIDE A GARAGE? ANDWILL IT WORK ON MY COMPTER OR TABLET?

It does work in a garage, as long as you can hardline the base station to your Cat5 or 5e network relatively close by (range on cameras is at least 70 feet through cinderblock walls). You access the system through the computer (web interface) or the Arlo app, which can be loaded on a tablet. You will need internet for this system to run.

does Arlo offer any free cloud space? if yes, for how many days storage?

Yes free unlimited storage for 7 days at a time for up to 5 devices. So every 7th day it'll delete the oldest days recordings. You can download whatever is needed within those 7 days.

I found the battery life is less than the MFG says it will last. Best option is to get rechargeable batteries.

How long does the battery last in the camera?

Hi Daniel,
I only have this camera for over a month and I place it inside the house.  So far it still has two bars (out of three bars).  Most of the time, the cameras are set to "All motion off" mode, when my family are at home.  Therefore, it shouldn't consume too much power in this case.  I set the cameras to "All motion on" mode after I go to work everyday.  It works pretty well for me so far.  I also have ADT system installed but the ADT camera is on 24/7.  For privacy concerns, I have to put the ADT camera inside garage to check if I close my garage door.  I wish this Netgear camera can be integrated into the ADT system so I only need to "arm" one system instead of two systems (Netgear and ADT) everyday.

Does this system have audio?
