Early issues on board seem present 7/27/2020 12:30:15 PM

Pros: USB C front panel header
LEDs on board
Wifi performance w/ antenna
PCIe SSD speeds

Cons: Memory support
Okay bios controls
Getting bios time between 10-20s with Ultra Fast boot enabled

Overall Review: Currently running bios version 1.10A and have run into a few issues with the common denominator being the board. Currently not able to run G.Skill 3600mhz CL18 memory at anything other than 2133mhz. Video output stutters and can ultimately crash windows (Phantom Gaming 5500XT).

The ASRock tuning software on the boards support page also says it is not supported by this system when installed. Polychrome software did work decently well and picked up the GPU and RAM leds. Would like to see more options for the lighting though.

I built with the board in an NZXT H1, overall the headers and power connectors were all located in a good spot for the pre-routed cable management. The PCIe riser does cover the front LEDs partially. Be sure to set the fan2 header to W_Pump in bios as it is not set by default.

I submitted a support ticket to ASRock for the issues I stated earlier and will update the review if the are able to be resolved.

So far very impressed - Edit: Okay a few issues.. 7/27/2020 12:09:12 PM

Pros: Great board with a decent layout and features. No issues at all so far. XMP worked right away, everything was recognized and installed. The new BIOS is responsive and easily navigable. Fan headers can be switched to pump mode which was nice. Front panel USB-C is a welcome site.

Cons: 90 degree SATA ports could be an issue in certain cases but for me it wasn't.

HD Audio header location is far away toward the IO/PCIe slot which isn't ideal for small cases.

ASRock's Overclocking Utility seems to freeze up and barely chugs along in Windows. It works, its just not ideal to have an overclocking utility freezing up and being unresponsive while you're overclocking...

RGB lights need to be turned off with the RGB software.

Getting the Bluetooth to work was a huge pain. At first boot it was recognized and I installed the drivers, rebooted but the interference and range was AWFUL. Turning my head with bluetooth headphones would cause audio to cut out and stutter. I uninstalled and reinstalled the WLAN drivers then suddenly the bluetooth reciever was completely missing in device manager.

Finally I was able to get bluetooth working after hours of troubleshooting. I had to uninstall in device manager - delete drivers, restart, disable bluetooth in the BIOS, boot into Windows, install WLAN drivers, restart, enable bluetooth in the BIOS and finally it appeared in device manager and seems to be working as expected.

Overall Review: If you notice some devices unrecognized in Device Manager go to AMD's website and install the latest chipset driver for B550 and restart.

Fits well in my NZXT H1 case. Make sure to plug in the SATA cables before you put the motherboard in though!

NZXT H1, Ryzen R5 3600, 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz, Western Digital WD BLACK SN750, RX 5700 8GB.

Performs as expected, meets my needs 7/25/2020 11:50:10 AM

Pros: Has all the ports I was looking for
Has some future-proofing features
Integrated IO shield

Cons: The asrock software update app is pretty terrible, but so are the other brands I’ve used

Had some issues getting the wifi driver at first, but it’s on the CD

Overall Review: It’s a motherboard, so for my use case as long as it has all the ports I need and fits my processor I’m pretty much happy. I don’t do a lot of overclocking or anything, so I can’t speak to that aspect, but overall I’ve been happy with this board.

Nothing against the board, but against the seller 7/20/2020 1:59:21 PM

Pros: Board had everything I needed

Cons: Damaged & malfunctioning board marketed as "new"

Overall Review: They sent me a supposed "new" motherboard which turned out to be used and had water damage on it, thankfully my builder spotted it and realized why everything on my PC was working but that, before you build anything from here PLEASE inspect it first, it could mean the end of your PC's life just by turning that power button on

Solid ITX Board 7/19/2020 8:58:48 AM

Pros: Fan-less Chipset
Heat sink for 4x PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot
Front USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C Header
16x PCIe 4.0 slot
Second M.2 slot - PCIe 3.0

Cons: 90 degree SATA Ports (can be a problem depending on the case)
No expansion adapter for plugging into the USB 2.0 header port (Not worth subtracting from the rating, but other motherboards I've had in the past usually come with at least one. I'm guessing they didn't provide one due to the form factor).

Overall Review: The B550 chipset is not quite as impressive as some of the features of the X570 chipsets, but most of the shortcomings are not an issue with the ITX boards.

The B550 allows for the full 16x PCIe 4.0 slot on a single slot. Multiple slots would reduce it down to 8x. Since the ITX boards only has a single PCIe slot, this isn't an issue. It also allows one of the 2 M.2 slots to operate a 4x PCIe speeds as well.

Unlike most of the X570 boards, the B550s also have the header for a Front USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port.

The board is small. Given it was ITX, I knew it would be small, but when it was delivered. I was surprised when the package fit (snugly) in my mailbox.

It has RGB options. Personally, I would have rather have another fan plug or two in place of the RGB headers, but the option is there for those who want it.

Experience:
When I first installed the M.2 hard drive under the heat sink, I hadn't read the manual and didn't notice the tape over the thermal material. The M.2 drive was running at about 65C idle and the software was reporting that it was too hot. The M.2 drive I had installed in the back was running at about half that. Upon seeing the mention of tape, I removed the heat sink, removed the tape, and reinstalled. It was down to 34C idle. The worst part was given the placement of the heat sink (above video card and below cpu) and the size of the screws, I was forced to take the motherboard out of the case to get the heat sink reattached. Room is an unfortunate trade off on the ITX form factor.

My biggest "complaint" is the size of the board. Everything is crammed together, and it isn't always easy to attach and screw in everything. This isn't really the manufactures issue, just an issue with the form factor. Overall, I think most of the header/plug placement was well thought out. The HD audio header could probably have been moved closer to the front of the board, given the fact that it is typically used for the case's front ports. It is close to the base IO, just above the PCIe slot. It is a little hard to get to when the GPU is installed.

Overall, I like this board. It had everything I wanted and so far has been running solid.

Mixed Results 7/13/2020 4:29:48 PM

Pros: - Good packaging
- Nice hefty board out of the box
- Enough USB connections for me
- USB header support for future cases with front USB
- Fits Noctua low profile air cooler

Cons: - Manual is not the best on written documentation and guidance
- Bios not working properly out of the box (no option to choose PCIe Gen 3)
- Website support not informative either
- Sound still not working
- Can not turn off RGB on motherboard

Overall Review: This is my first build and in hindsight, maybe I should of opted for an older generation board with all of the issues worked out. But, I wanted the latest technology to carry me for a few years before having to upgrade again. I pre-ordered this board since all of the X570 boards were sold out anyways. Shipping times were a bit delayed from when Newegg said it was expecting to send them out, but also expected this to happen.

Fast forward a few weeks and the board arrived in good order physically. The box was in perfect condition and excited to take to unwrap everything. Since this is my first experience, board felt hefty and of quality build for me. No bent pins or capacitors. The manual did an adequate explanation of the physical breakdown of the board picture wise, but written documentation and guides could be better.

Built everything and fired it right up. Nothing on screen. Ok, let's start going down the check list. I was also working with a new ITX case manufacturer who was actually very responsive in helping me figure this out even though it wasn't supposed to be his problem to help me solve. I'm using an MSI Mech OC 5600XT and ruled out the PCIe cable when I plugged it directly into the motherboard and the Asrock BIOS screen came on. Awesome! Just have to change settings then. Went into the submenus and found out there was no option to change the PCIe to Gen 3 which is necessary for the the 5600XT to work through the PCIe cable. Went to Asrock's support page and didn't find much documentation. Sent an email to Asrock support on 7/7 (still no response as of today). Finally found information on the Reddit Asrock forum. Someone else was able to get through to support and posted the new BIOS he was given (v1.05).

I loaded this up and there was now a menu available to change the PCIe to Gen 3 finally. Great! Loaded Windows 10 and was excited to finally make progress except NO SOUND was coming out from the audio out. Made sure Windows was up to date, still no change.

So that's my journey and where I'm at to this point. Everything else works except for the sound. I've noticed Asrock customer support is more responsive on reviews, so maybe I'll get support help here instead since response to my direct contact with them hasn't happened. Overall, 3 eggs on the review for this motherboard with room for improvement. If I can't get the sound issue resolved, it will probably be 1-2 eggs.

It's everything I asked for 7/12/2020 4:45:31 PM

Cons: I had a bit of difficulty lining up the screws on the stock AMD cooler with the holes in the back plate, but that might not have been Asrock's fault.

Overall Review: Looks great, lots of opportunities to upgrade. Only downer was the on-board LEDs aren't visible using my current case, a rvz02b from silverstone.

Disappointed. Terrible Bios 7/10/2020 11:00:50 AM

Pros: Wifi Ax is fast

Cons: Very picky with ram timings and speeds. Even at manufacturer specified timings.
Once an OC or Ram profile does not work, motherboard won't reset back to defaults. It just won't post anymore and a manual cmos jumper reset is needed. This means for every config you try that goes slightly wrong you have to take out the GPU since the jumpers are under the GPU. Very frustrating.
By the way, the jumper pin is not included. Had to use screw driver.

Overall Review: Would not recommend. My first board outside of ASUS and MSI. Would not buy ASrock Motherboards again
