Unstable 7/14/2020 2:51:24 PM

Pros: Nice budget board with minimal features. Low TDP, stays cool enough without fans. Runs off a 150w pico psu.

Cons: UEFI only, only 2 SATA ports, 8GB Max.
Mine is unstable.

Overall Review: I've spent 2 weeks trying to get my linux server to run with this board (works fine with old board). I get random, hardware-related kernel panics every day or two. Changed memory, PSU, peripherals, every possible BIOS setting, etc.

On the upside, I learned how to set up KDUMP for automatic logs and reboot on kernel crash... returning this board, will try a J5005 next (Asrock seems to be the only budget low power option right now).

Mr Bil's AsRocks-DDR4 12/16/2019 2:56:42 PM

Pros: Whats not to like, the Rosewill Line-M case rapps perfectly around this board W/5x120mm fans including the power supply one ! It's made for the NZXT 2 (5 1/4" bay) fan controller. All fans present on the display panel consistantly so I needed to change to all the same fan, which I did so all run approx the same as the power supply in "standard mode 800-900" to "full mode 1300-1400". The power supply always runs at 900 rpm getting it's power from the interior of the PSupply instead of the front panel.

Cons: (11/02/18) running smooth on win 10 home updated to current ver.

Overall Review: Just opened it up and getting everything ready for next payday eeh eeh eeh............
(11/02/18) board is flawless and running an N'vidia1050 video card now.
Added 2x8's G. Skill Flare X DDR4 2400 running well and booting better than ever before.

Snappy but picky 4/1/2019 10:28:01 AM

Pros: Snappy performance, low power draw, great value

Cons: Very picky when in comes to RAM

Overall Review: I am running Gentoo Linux on this machine, meaning that I compile everything locally. The performance is perfectly adequate and is actually better than I expected based on the specs. As an example media-libs/mesa builds in just under 13 minutes, compared with the 3 minutes it takes to build it on my server. That might seem quite a bit slower, but that server has 32 cores and fast disks so my expectations (which based on specs hovered around 20 minutes) were handily beaten. The integrated graphics are perfectly adequate to drive my three monitors (one 4K and two 1080p), so much so that the discrete GPU I planned to use with the board turned out to be unnecessary. Note however that my application is a media computer; gamers might not find the integrated graphics that satisfactory (or might who knows, I have not tested). Hardware accelerated media encoding and decoding is a definite plus for my application. The power draw is very low (about 25W at idle for the whole system, and not much more on high load).

Overall I like this board quite a bit and I can see multiple applications at which it would excel, including but obviously not limited to a media computer (like in my case), a router/firewall, or even a file server. The available PCIe slot could accommodate things such as a big multi-port NIC (for the router role, where the WiFi/BT M.2 socket would also be useful), a RAID card (for the file server role), a discrete GPU (for more serious graphics), and so on.

This all being said, I have to take one egg off for pickiness. The motherboard is very picky when it comes to RAM. I had to return two sets of RAM sticks that rendered the system utterly unbootable (the system will not even POST). The third time was a charm, but beside the aggravation I also lost in the process the mail-in rebate window. It would appear that observing the (very short) list of compatible RAM modules is a must for this board (I can confirm in particular that Corsair Vengeance sticks work fine).

Great Pfsense board 3/22/2019 4:28:47 PM

Pros: Great Pfsense board pair it with a Intel NIC and RAM. Pair it with a Pico power supply
Handles Openvpn with no issues
sips power

Cons: Not a big con but i wish the x16 PCI-e slot was a true X16.
It is very picky about which ram you use make sure its supported
wish it had an m.2 sata slot

Overall Review: Good choice for a firewall

Problem booting with HDMI under Ubuntu 18.04 12/22/2018 9:38:53 PM

Pros: MB seems fast enough for a media center computer. Love that it's fan-less. Posted without problems. Price is good.

Cons: I simply cannot get it to boot unless I have a VGA monitor plugged in. It boots with a VGA monitor, and with a VGA monitor and an HDMI monitor (via a surround sound amp to an HDTV). But it will not display anything if only the HDMI output is plugged in.

I've had such a set-up working for years, but the old MB finally died last week, and now 4 hours of frustration later, including fiddling with Linux boot parameters, I'm no further than when I started. It's not viable for me to have a VGA monitor plugged in just the get the darn thing to boot. It should be a completely straightforward to make this MB work with my set-up, but it's now.

Happy to upgrade my review if manufacturer is listening and can suggest a fix.

Silent, Low Wattage Motherboard 4/30/2018 8:34:43 PM

Pros: An ideal motherboard for a PfSense firewall. Full length PCIE slot to accommodate full 4x1gb nic. Motherboard rarely goes above 35 degrees Celsius.
Runs Windows 10 Pro smoothly.

Cons: Motherboard LED would have been nice as it is too silent as there are no fans.
The UFI BIOS has some difficulties selecting VMware ESXi but a BIOS update may fix that in the future.

Overall Review: Yes I would recommend this product.
