I'm interested in a board only for 8K 2-D work like software development on a large monitor - no games. HDMI 2.1 can drive that at 60 Hz, but it's hard to find out which cards can do this. Don't want to buy a 4080 just for that. Does anyone know if it would be good at this? Scaled to 4K but razor sharp text and lots of it. My Dell 43" 4K IPS is a bit small and I want  a total upgrade.

Yes it absolutely needs  a support bracket of some kind.  It does not come with one so I purchased a rather inexpensive one online that seemed to work well enough.

750w is a safe total system recommendation. You could get by with a smaller one depending on cpu.  Reference 7900xt uses 320-350w. This card only has 2 8 pin connectors so its probably around the same amount.
