Is the keyboard backlit? Here it says it isn't, but elsewhere it says it is.

Where can I find more information on the 1 year drop and spill protection that is supposedly included?

Yes, the keyboard is backlit. The color of the light is white and can be adjusted at 3 levels of brightness.

You can find more information about the accidental damage protection by searching for "Asus ADP" on Google (it is the first result when I searched for it. I wanted to post a link here, but I'm not allowed to).

Does this product come with Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.  Also does this product have any virus/internet package preloaded such as McAfee, Norton, etc for protection when first connecting to the internet?

Mine came with win 8 but can be upgraded free to 8.1 online. I believe it did have some sort of antivirus software but i removed it. I think the built in windows defender is sufficient.

As far as I can see, the display specs listed on newegg for laptop "ASUS N550JV-DB72T" (which is the one I bought from them about a month ago) are correct:

15.6''
16:9 IPS FHD (1920x1080)
LED Backlight Non-Glare LCD Panel with Touch

Personally I find the display to be excellent, haven't used the touch capabilities yet (so can't comment on them), though my wife did play around with them and said they appeared to work well (smoothly).

Does this laptop have the space and access ability to add a SSDrive?

You can *replace* the drive with an SSD. There isn't a second drive bay to add an additional SSD while still keeping the original drive. The first thing I did after buying this laptop was replace the drive with a 500 GB Samsung SSD. It performs awesome.

Opening up the laptop requires a Torx T5 screwdriver. It's much smaller than any of the Torx screwdrivers I owned before, and I had to make a special trip to the hardware store to get one. After you get the bottom off the machine the internal screws are all Philips.

The system comes with two 4GB SO-DIMMs. You can swap them out for 2 8GB SO-DIMMs for a max of 16GB. I've done this with my system and had no issues.

It does - with some quirks. It did not show 8.1 in the windows store for 4-5 days - I did not go check with ASUS or download free update from Microsoft myself - too much hassle and no time.
I just applied a few Windows updates. Then it offered me a free upgrade from the Store - and I did upgrade.
First impressions: graphics very good, CPU - nominally  pretty strong - need to run real stress tests, disk - slow - folks on the web suggest upgrading, network card, hm, --- not so good - a few drops in wifi - but it's a long stack to explore - web folks say that this card is to be replaced .

Can I burn CDs with this laptop?

Yes, you can burn CDs and DVDs with this.
You cannot read or write Blu-ray.
