Question 1

I need HDMI to deliver both video as well as audio, can it do both or is it video only?

Can only tell you that I am working with that issue now, however, installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit, Haswell i5 and no graphics card, on-board only and not getting HDMI audio through my TV (used as a monitor).  Trying to figure out is it the el cheapo HDMI Cable, or drivers since I haven't installed a card, or something else haven't thought about, probably something simple since the sound utility shows output and I can plug in a speaker and get sound.  Can tell you I have another build with Asus Sabertooth Z87, i7 haswell, PNY Quadro card Win 7 and it does play nicely through the TV via HDMI cable, wait, I booted that build to Ubuntu too and it played through the HDMI cable to TV also.

Are you going to install a graphics card or using on-board graphics?

Maybe Asus can chime in and give some insight to on-board graphics HDMI capability

Is this a Micro ATX motherboard?

Yes it is.

Have this MB now and want to add an PCI audio card for music listening. Will I need to disable the integrated audio in the bios for it to work properly?

thanks for the answers. the only reason I asked the question was that the asus xonar essence st audio card requires the integrated audio to be disabled in order for it to work. I don't know if that only applies to that card specifically or to all pci audio cards. I am using powered speakers that accept RCA connections and the audio outlets on the H87M MB don't have RCA outputs.

do you need to adjust anything on the board as it was bought in the USA and the voltage in ireland is 240volts compared to 120volts in usa.?

No you do not need to.  The power supply that you are using must put out the correct voltage for the motherboard which I believe is 12v and 5 v.  You can check that in the motherboard manual.  The motherboard does not see the AC voltage so it does not make a difference whether it is in Europe or America.

Your specs state only I5 or I7 CPU can be used.  When I'm looking at the ASUS site, they state that an I3 can also be used.  Was this just an oversite on your part?

I used this mobo in a build for my parents with an i5 4670k.  Always check with the manufacturers website for compatability, in this case ASUS.  An i3 should work great with this board.  I think any CPU with the 1150 socket should work, but always listen to the manufacturer first.  If ASUS says an i3 is compatable then it is.  Also always check the memory compatability for any motherboard though the manufacturer.

up to 1.65 volts.  I used this MoBo for my parents with Gskill Ripjaw series memory 1600mhz 7-8-7-24 timings 1.6v and its running great.  Double check the ASUS website but 1.65 Volts is the standard max for hasswell 1150 socket processors

I am looking to purchase a entry level ASUS motherboard/cpu/memory combo with onboard video chip so I do not need to buy any expansion cards for it.

Can you offer me a couple (3-4) combinations for me to evaluate?

I have already decided to purchase from you, because via word of mouth your reputation preceeds you. I just have to figure out through all the choices which one is best to suit my needs.

I am pretty set on ASUS because, like you, they have a long standing reuptation, and I have never had problems with their hardware before. I am open though to other suggestions you may have.

I am looking for a basic inexpensive setup with enough RAM to sufficiently surf the web. I would never need an 8 core processor or some 7000 series Radeon setup. I am not looking to do gaming or any other other higher functioning task level stuff. Start it up, surf the web without waiting 2 minutes for a page to load = exactly what I am looking for.

I'll be honest with you, if your only requirement is to surf the web smoothly, any combinations you can find that with intel i3 or i5 cpu and 8gb of ram that suits your budget will be just fine.

I just built one for my wife to surf the web, I thought I need a i5 3550 and 8gb 1600hz ram, but as it turns out it was a big overkill.

I do believe that you better not cheap out on internal hard drive though. Reliability is never a bad thing.
