Pros: Everything works ok
Easy to install

Cons: There seems to be some confusion about which of the 3 PCIe X16 slots to use... I used one of the 2 blue slots and it works

Overall Review: I haven't tested SLI

Do your research first 12/20/2009 12:55:45 AM

Pros: Looks slick, supports SLI and many other features. Seems to run just fine. It supports 24-pin connection which isn't mentioned in the description which is great for me.

Cons: Does not support AHCI so a lot of hard drive migrations out there will have problems with this board if they have AHCI enabled. This board is fairly old. I was expecting something 2008/2009 era but it's 2007 which means it doesn't support windows 7 and 64-bit and for anyone wanting to get good performance both AHCI and 64-bit is a must. Impossible to create a workaround to update the bios, and there are hacks to enable AHCI but all of them involving a 32bit OS with a floppy disk.

Overall Review: It works fine but for two-bills, there are much more compatible boards out there and newer ones that you can rely on. I can't return this one because it was part of a bundle. Read the fine print before purchasing this motherboard!

Only looks good on paper 7/26/2008 5:37:10 AM

Pros: The spec sheet reads like a dream come true - PCI-X, PCI-E16 x 3, USB2.0, IEEE1384, etc.

Cons: The reality is much different. This board would not POST with a 45nm Wolfdale processor despite ASUS's claims and despite having the latest BIOS (v1001) installed. POST was sporadic at best with a 65nm Conroe processor.

Overall Review: I purchased this board was an open-box, so I cannot, in good conscience, give it a 1 even though I would like to do so. Since I have no knowledge of the previous purchaser's experience with it, you be the judge.

SLI 4/30/2008 9:26:46 AM

Pros: Great board does everything I could expect it to do. 8GB of OCZ SLI memory and Core 2 Duo CPU. Even let's me do SLI.

Cons: The bottom PCI-E x 16 slot seems dead. I cant get any video card to run in it. I am currently running two Asus EN 8800 GTS w/320 MB of memory on the top and middle slots. Worried that two of these cards so close together will be a heat issue. Even the motherboard documentation states to run the second board in the lower slot. Wish it worked for me. Nothing in bios to set and no jumpers. Perhaps I just have a dead PCI-E x 16 slot.

Sick to my stomach... 1/11/2008 6:04:13 PM

Pros: None so far.

Cons: First board posted once, then never again. Tested all my components and everything seemed to be working to I returned the board. Tried with new board. Posts, but can't get OS installed. Based on tech forums appears to compatibility issue with Q6600. Tried to install Windows XP Home, Pro and Vista Ultimate 32bit. Each install craps out at some point. Frustrating. I think I'm done with ASUS.

BOOT PROBLEM from PCI-X 10/26/2007 2:02:37 PM

Pros: PCI-X slot has 1.xx compliant. Any SCSI adapters with 2.0 compliant and higher will not work. You need to use SCSI adapters with < 2.0 compliant. Adaptec 29320 has 2.1 compliant (doesn’t work). So you can use LSI 21320-R with 1.xx compliant, it works (tested)

Cons: non

Overall Review: non

Board Review Revisited 7/25/2007 12:35:11 AM

Pros: Many, but not conjunctively in motherboard BIOS and in PCI-X. Depending on the PCI-X SCSI card installed, incompatibility may exist. Adaptec 39320 allows proper booting, but this card supports up to two arrays involving up to six physical drives disjunctively; arrays created in Adaptec BIOS are viewable in MB BIOS.

Cons: An instance exists with the LSI 320-1 SCSI card; in this card's BIOS, 'array' is synonymous with 'logical drive.' Product description reads 40-logical-drive support, and while installed in the PCI-X slot of the P5NT WS, many arrays are makable, but the option 'Select logical drive to boot from' does not function properly. If there is a single logical drive created, booting functions properly. If there are two logical drives, labelled 1 and 2, booting occurs respectively by the numbers 2 and 1 in the 'select-boot' option. if there are equal-to-greater-than three logical drives, booting is no longer supported until the number of logical drives is reduced to equal-or-less-than two.

Overall Review: Since the LSI card functions properly in other motherboards, a problem for Asus programming team is to fix the indexing in P5NT BIOS for PCI-X slot. Please do it fast... This assumes the PCI-X hardware on the board is not dysfunctional.
