Overall Review: Building computers for many years, this one, ASUS Z690 Extreme impressed me beautifully. Loved the fact that there is a steel back plate. Working like a horse for a week now, was lucky to be able to buy DDR5 RAM. Did not do any overclocking yet. This board has some serious weight to it. Very happy camper with this new and superfast system.
Overall Review: Awesome motherboard for my 12900k build. I am a first time PC builder, but wanted to go all-in with the new Z690 form factor. Extreme was an obvious choice since I wanted all the bells and whistles which will keep my system future proof for the foreseeable future. It was a straightforward build with very good instructions provided in the manual. I think all the additional features will keep me busy exploring its potential for the foreseeable future.
Pros: This is a beautiful board well made and full of bells and whistles. Over clocking is fairly easy and straightforward. Five onboard m.2 drives is really nice including one gen5.
Cons: There were a few stability issues before updating the firmware and Amory Crate software is buggy. G-Skill ram RGB do not always sync correctly.
Overall Review: This is my fifth Maximus Extreme so I expected a lot from this board and Asus did not disappoint.
Pros: - Massive VRM and VRM heatsinks
- Anime Matrix is well done and very unique.
- Oled Display
- Tons of accessories
Overall Review: This board is absolutely the benchmark Z690 board. All the extra features and accessories included is a nice touch, thanks Asus.
Pros: Good performance, good power delivery
Appearance is amazing
Overall Review: i would give it a 5 star but first one I received was defective and had 2 ram slots that were defective.
Pros: Pros: Looks cool
Cons: Cons: Ever since I turned on my PC, I have been having issues. The PC will run through every q code for 1-2 minutes before ending on post error 99. I was able to bypass this by going into the bios and selecting "discard changes and exit" and that was the ONLY way to get into windows. After 2 days of use, and having to go through that start up every time I came to use my PC with nothing solving it, my mouse and keyboard stopped being detected. I cannot even access my bios anymore. I submitted an RMA to asus, this is the first time I have ever had an issue with a component. I would return through newegg, but I bought this on the 12th of last month, but only just finished my build this week to test it out so I am past the return date.
Overall Review: For this price tag, I expected to be getting a premium product that would last me for years to come, but instead I didn't even make it half a week without it becoming completely defective.
Pros: Item is the best asus has in the intel line if you want to overclock and tweak. Very nice visuals also
Cons: Item is pricey
Overall Review: I would recommend for enthusiasts who will be tweaking
Pros: - Built exceptionally well (Solid metal backplate and reinforced heatsinks on the front.
- The LCD is a nice and useful feature.
- Numerous Fan and light headers make building a breeze
- Lots of available ports as well as Thunderbolt
- Tons of available accessories as well as included thermal pads
- Voltician is a handy tool
Cons: - This is a difficult board to fit into a motherboard. I went through 3 other brands before finally landing on the Lian Li XL (which works perfectly). Even boards that state that they accommodate an EATX board may not fit this particular board. The issue is in the wire plugs being placed on the side versus on top of the board. A lot of the cases I tried didn't allow enough room for the cords to bend at a right angle. If the plugs would have been on the top, there would have been no issue at all.
- The GPU and 5 generations M.2 slot both share lanes. If you wish to use a 5th-generation SSD in the SSD_1 slot you will sacrifice half your GPU PCIe lanes (i.e., 16 lanes down to 8). I with that ASUS would have come up with a better solution. For now, I'm not using that top M.2 slot at all for fear of losing GPU speed.
Overall Review: Overall, I really like this MB. It looks fantastic, it's well-built, and the LCD/and AniMe display are eye-catchers. The motherboard comes with a lot of extra accessories, and the ASUS BIOS and feature set are second to none. However, this isn't the easiest MB to fit in all cases, and the right-hand connectors can be difficult to use. I'm also disappointed in the splitting of the PCIe GPU lane. I wish Asus would have come up with a different solution for a 1,000 plus board.
In the end, despite a few minor issues, I would definitely purchase this board again.
