High-End Performance with mid-range price. 100% satisfied no issues whatsoever 3/29/2018 5:51:14 PM

Pros: Got this motherboard back in 2016 as I was looking for a beast motherboard and home for my 6950x. It's been 2 quick years and I've had nothing but great experiences with this motherboard. Gaming/Editing/Streaming/Work you name it this does it. All RAM/PCIe slots are working great with everything detected XMP with no issues whatsoever. I wanted to get the Rampage V Edition 10 but due to the EATX size it wouldn't fit my case.

Lo and behold the first ever Strix branded motherboard ROG Strix X99 Gaming. I have been reading all these negative reviews and I'm glad to say none of the issues that plagued others happened for me. I believe many of the reasons others are having issues with are user error and not hardware related. Although the motherboard has RGB's, I prefer them off in which you can do in BIOS as I was going for the minimalist look. The black PCB is sexy and will match most builds. Make sure to update your motherboard firmware as it is recommended for improved power delivery and optimized microcode for your CPU.

Cons: - Wi-Fi could be better
- No ROG Armour

What JUNK! Why can't it just flippin WORK!? 2/3/2018 10:34:58 PM

Pros: LEDs, all black PCB, lots of fan headers

Cons: USB problems out the *** on this one.

Overall Review: Let me start by saying that I have owned this board for a little more than 5 months as of this review. I have done several clean installs of windows and different versions of drivers on a Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2, Intel 5930K CPU, 64GB of Corsair Vengance LPX DDR4 2133 RAM and WD Black mech drives.

These issues infuriate me!! My issues 95% happen only on this board. I have 2 Logitech C920 webcams that I used on another X99 system, at the same time, with no issues. When I plug them into this board, no matter which 2 USB ports I use, no matter what I do with drivers and software, I cannot get both, or get one of them to work. I plug one or both of them into another system, instantly installs and they just work, no Logitech drivers or software. I also use Corsair Sabre RGB mice and Strafe RGB keyboards. Nearly every time this system boots, no matter what state it boots from, I have to unplug and replug in the mouse to get it to work in Windows, not so much for the keyboard. I have multiple of these devices and they ALL do it, despite multiple RMAs of the Corsair mice, this issue plagues me.

Normally I flock to ASUS for products since its mostly what I have used for nearly every single computer I've built since 1996. I have to say, stay the **** away from this board. It feels like ASUS has gotten sloppy with their driver page of their site as well. I really wanted this board to work well since it is aesthetically pleasing to me. I like all-black PCBs since they are basically universal to 90% of color themed builds. I have to dump this board and look at other brands now since I refuse to pay 500 bucks just for an all black mobo.

Worst ASUS board I've ever had. 1/10/2018 1:15:30 PM

Pros: Easy to install, clean RGB.

Cons: Terrible overclocking, unstable even with different listed supported memory. XMP just fails. Locks up often then says overclock failed press F1. Tried manually setting with voltages, wont boot. Have the latest BIOS updated as well, seemed to get worse.

Overall Review: I have built over 40 systems with ASUS and this has severely disappointed me. I maybe should have went rampage but I thought the Strix series would have been good enough.

Stopped after 1 year 12/13/2017 2:16:53 PM

Pros: Worked great for 1 year, all functions. Love the AURA.

Cons: Stopped working out of the blue. Not posting, goes off after 1-2 seconds. Check everything, remounted all components. Finally took system to Altex Computer to check motherboard and CPU (i7-6850K) and they are both not working. I have to assume that the mobo killed the CPU.

Overall Review: It worked great while lasted, but now I find too many mixed reviews. I have to fix the system, not sure if I'll use ASUS. The whole system was ROG (video card and 32" curved monitor). Local Altex techs were impressed with ROG setup.

Fried 2 sata hdds and seems to disable usb controller after restarts and powering down 12/1/2017 11:11:49 AM

Pros: The board has plenty of features and looks good with some customization available on color schemes.

Cons: After about 18 months I had not been using and sata drives just my nvme main drive. For some reason and I have no clue why but the board is burning up drives. The first sata drive was about 5 years old and I chalked it up to the drive age not realizing it was the mobo not the drives. I plugged in another working sata ssd poof up in smoke literally something fried on the second drive. I have sent this board back RMA uspchb2669 but it’s very disappointing. The 2.0 usb can controller for some reason would disable all the ports but all I have to do is go back to the device manager and enable them again. Not sure figured it was a Win 10 driver issue. Asus seems to have had a miss step with this board would suggest going a different route.

Overall Review: Hoepfully they will replace or fix the board but losing a 2TB hdd and 512gB ssd hits hard

Great while it lasted 10/6/2017 12:24:41 PM

Pros: Awesome performance and features, LED lighting, built-in wifi

Cons: Died over time

Overall Review: This board was awesome when it was first installed. First, the overclock would fail. After that, it wouldn't post correctly after normal shutdowns. Then, the ethernet port failed. Now, it randomly drops the USB controller... all peripherals fail at random. Time to go with a different architecture... incredibly frustrating!
