Question 3

I want to buy a WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 250GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 which i would like to put my os in and a SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3. X4, NVMe 1.3 64L V-NAND 3-bit for games, movies and other softwares. Can i use them both or there will be some conflicts? Does it matter which one is install to the top M.2 slot or to the bottom M.2 slot. Also, does it matter if they have different speeds? Also, i want to say that my build is not ready yet and i will like to buy those 2 SSDs. Thank you.

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can use both the WD BLACK SN750 NVMe M.2 2280 250GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 and the SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3. X4, NVMe 1.3 64L V-NAND 3-bit SSDs in your build. The ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-E GAMING motherboard supports two M.2 slots with the following specifications:
- M.2_1 socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (SATA & PCIE 3.0 x4 mode)
- M.2_2 socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (PCIE 3.0 x4 mode)
Different speeds of these SSDs will not cause any conflicts. You can install either of the SSDs in either slot; however, for optimal performance, it is usually recommended to install the faster SSD in the primary slot (M.2_1).
