Can this product do Sata HDD drives i have a seagate 14tb exos drive but its sata would they work because i do see its sas but dont sas drives use the exact same connectors sata hdd use?

SATA drives will work with the enclosure, but you will need a SAS controller. Keep in mind, most SAS controllers are designed for industrial rackmount enclosures, where lots of airflow is expected. If you plan on using a PCIe SAS controller in a consumer PC case, expect to rig up some sort of cooling solution. Also, this enclosure has a loud fan.

Question 2

Can the fan be replaced with standard 80mm low noise fan?

Included fan is 80mmx20mm with a specialized connector. You can replace with 80x25, but need to make some adjustments. You cannot use the cover and you will have to connect the fan to MB. Included mounting screws are too short as the orig fan is only 20mm. So you need some 30mm (T3 screws, may be). Not to forget that you are probably out of warranty also.

Can i use sata HDD seagate exos 14tb Drives on this ? i see it says sas drives but dont the use the same connector i hope itll work if so ima purchase once this answer is questioned if it can

Yes. I have two SATA (WD 1TB Black) and they work fine.

Question 4

Can four drives in this be setup in RAID 5 with only two SATA ports?

The 2 SATA ports pictured are to provide power only.  All data is transferred with the mini-SAS connection.  Which RAID modes are supported is up to the RAID controller it's connected to.

Question 5

I would like to know if will operate without the fan if anyone knows?  It will be mounted in a server with more than adequate air flow.

Accepted Answer

One of the switches on the back is fan speed but only has a high or low option.  To complete disable the fan I think you would have to disassemble and unplug it.

Question 6

Can anyone supply the actual dimensions of the module? It seems to me that the width dimension should be ~5.25". The dimensions supplied in the specifications seem like they are incorrect and are potentially the dimensions of the packaging for shipping.
