To my surprise I notice the C281 has no sticker on the back displaying the polarity of the DC power supply (12v/1.5A). There is a generic power supply you can buy but I can't find any specifications? I need this device to work in the UK and I'm up a tree. Please, if anyone knows the answer to this question I would much appreciate it

The center is + and the outside is negative. You can also see the sign on the AC to DC adapter itself.

Make sure you have the composite cables and I would get the thicker ones like Monster but good ones. Monsters are good if you find good price other wise you have cables coming out to Avermedia. Then out to TV whether game console or TV or DVR from cable. NOW, seriously think this one out. I do not know if you found the bundle that was on sale BUT they had a refurb 500GB WD Blue Refurb for $14 2.5 inch which fits ever so nicely directly into the Avermedia. It does NOT take a rocket scienctist to figure out that the on board hard drive is much faster than the USB outlet on the front of the Avermedia. I use both. AND then transfer everything to my network hard drives I have 24TBs plus so maybe 30TBs or more. Just use the USB drive and plug it into network. If you have used the hard drive inside the Avermedia. Pop it out. Put it in USB enclosure and copy to network. NOW better results will come and faster results from the hard drive internally. Externally you have lag. If you are game player there is way to watch in real time the recording BUT Microsoft Gaming has figured this out but there is a way around that as well. If you can get 7200 rpm 2.5 inch hard drive it worth it. If you can find a XT Momentus that is part SSD and 7200 zrpm which are on sale somewhere right now but are refurbs from reliable source. EVERYTHING you need except intrernal hard drive is in box. Easy to move around and bring to friends less that two minutes to set up just like the old days and composite wire and VCRs LOL!

does it work with mac?

I am not a Mac user BUT if you go to YouTube and search Avermedia and Mac you will find that it appears to work and has good videos as does YouTube all the time. There are different codes that you can get but they are on the hush hush and you have to dig for them.
