compatability with windows 8?

Sorry, I have Windows XP!  Have not had the time I need to test this product more....do know that I am unable to transfer a lot of 1980 TV shows onto DVD (copyright issues!!!)  Also have had trouble with the audio.  Did do a good job direct from my video camera!

Is it possible to use this for broadcasting? (e.g. Twitch)

Yes you can stream live video from a camcorder to usb port with this device as well as capture video for editing. If you want to broadcast in HD it will not work. For HDMI I recommend The MagewellXI100DUSB-HDMI HDMI to USB 3.0 Video Capture Dongle. I also recommend the VMix software for live streaming in either hd or digital.

Will this work with Windows 8.1?

Go to the Avermedia Web page and look up the spec page for the device.  It will say which operating systems are supported.  I have used it with Windows 8.0 successfully.

Will this device allow transfer of protected VHS tapes to DVD?

It captures whatever you see on your screen. I havent tried anything protected, but I dont see how that would be any issue. You basically are hitting the play button on your VCR and hitting record on the software. If you can see it, it should be recording it

I have used the EZMaker on WinXP and Win7. According to the driver install screen EZmaker is also has Win8 drivers..not sure about Win8.1.... You can probably get the latest drivers from their web site.

Specifications say you must have a "sound card," are they referring to a separate one? (Stand-alone?)  Or will an integrated one work?

Can the USB be recognized as a webcam by Windows? More specifically can it be used with DirectShow?

it a very specific cable tuner, with little other functions, so I would say No to your question, the USB is how it communicates with the PC and there is a lot of lag in the connection

Was wondering if this device is compatible with ROKO as far as recording live stream onto HDD without having to go through a vcr or similar machine for "personal use" without copywrite conflict ?
