Overall Review: This stuff is seriously miniature, you won't understand until you actually have it in your hand. It's barely taller than the tabs that lock the RAM in!
The purpose of this stuff is to be tiny and efficient, however if you up the voltage to 1.65V and loosen timings you can likely hit or exceed 2000MHz with these little guys.
If you ever have a problem with a Crucial product the RMA procedure is painless.
When I can, I turn to Crucial products.
Pros: Low profile, fits under nearly any CPU cooler. Rated to run at a low voltage, 1.35 V at 1600 speed. Heat spreaders included.
Overall Review: Compatible with BIOSTAR A960D+.
Pros: I received a single module with the purchase of my Asrock 990fx Extreme9 motherboard about 2 weeks ago. The RAM runs excellently and I am glad that Newegg provided such a sweet deal. I did purchase another 8 GB for a total of 16GB of DDR3 1600 PC3 12800 Ram. Probably unnecessary for most applications but ram runs more efficiently in Dual Channel setup and when essentially only paying $55 (it was on sale when I bought the 2nd module) for 16 GB of ram was a complete steal. Prior to this RAM I had only ever owned Kingston and G. Skill modules but this RAM operates perfectly and I will indeed assess crucial technology in future purchases.
Cons: The RAM was not running at the said 1600mhz speed (no biggie most RAM does not run at its certified setting.) Went into the BIOS and changed the speed from (not sure why but the speeds are slightly askew) 1072 to 1605 mhz.
Overall Review: ASRock 990fx Extreme9 AM3+ Mobo
AMD FX 8350 Vishera 8-core processor
16 GB Crucial Low Profile Desktop Ram
1 TB WD Caviar Black
ASUS Radeon 7870 Ghz edition
CM Storm Scout Lan Gaming case
Fans: 3 x 120mm + 2 x 140mm
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 750W V2 High Performance PSU
Pros: Extremely low profile. The size is level with the latches on my motherboard. Great if you're using a ginormous cpu cooler that would block the dimm slots.
Runs at advertised speeds (1600) and comes with 2 XMP profiles. Profile 1 is 1.35v and 2 at 1.5v.
Overall Review: I had been using g.skill ripjaws for the last half a decade and then I got one stick of this memory for free with my motherboard (z77 extreme6).
And it turned out to be the best surprise ever! This RAM runs flawlessly at anything I've done in the last 3+ weeks I've had it. So much so that I fell into the trap and bought a 2nd stick so I could run dual-channel w/ 16gb.
My old system that I had run for years had 4x4gb (of g.skill) so I got used to having 16gb for gaming and for work. I love this memory. Must buy!
Pros: * Really low-profile - 15mm above the slot (5/8")
* Ultra low voltage needs (1.35v)
* Works great in my Dell XPS system, and likely many other brand names.
Cons: None at all
Overall Review: Since I can't adjust the voltage in my employer's Dell XPS system, I had to get something 1.5v or lower. I saw this, and based on past experience with Crucial, ordered a pair.
After a quick test with the first 2 sticks which worked great, we ordered 2 more pairs to max out the system at 24GB. I've been hammering on the machine and it hasn't missed a beat.
Highly recommended RAM, especially if you have a monster heat sink that gets really close to some of your RAM slots.
Pros: * Low voltage
* Low profile
* Very good latency ratings
* When using a motherboard with UEFI, it picked up the RAM timings perfectly.
Cons: None at all.
Overall Review: This line of RAM is excellent in keeping temperatures and energy usage down in your system, yet it is very fast.
These things are so low-profile that they clear even my biggest heatsinks which are very close to the RAM slots. Obviously you'll want to put the RAM in before you cover them up with some heatsink monstrosity.
I have a pair of these installed in an MSI motherboard with UEFI, and the motherboard picked these up right away and ran with it. When the prices come back down, I'm going to pick up another pair and take that system to 32GB. I didn't overclock them because there really wasn't a need to.
Because it is low voltage, it is also compatible with some OEM equipment where you can't adjust the voltages to allow for 1.65 volt RAM or sometimes even 1.5 volt RAM.
Rock solid stability, excellent brand reputation, flawless design, NewEgg is the best vendor in the world - what more could you ask for?
*** VERY Highly Recommended ***
Pros: - Very low profile
- As fast as RAM needs to be
Cons: - None so far
Overall Review: Ordered 2 sticks (2x 8GB) and ran them through an overnight MemTest with absolutely zero problems. I'm always a bit on edge when ordering RAM and HDDs so it's a great feeling when things just work. I installed mine into an ASRock Z97 Extreme4 and the motherboard detected the correct RAM timings/voltages automatically on boot, no toying around required.
The low profile is very low - the securing latches on the RAM slots are higher than the sticks themselves. This allows for pretty much any choice of CPU cooler without concern of butting against the enormous fins of RipJaws and others. I installed the common Hyper 212 EVO onto my CPU and the fan clears the RAM with ample room to spare. If your CPU cooler won't fit over this RAM then it's not fitting anywhere.
I tax my RAM heavily, loading dense sample libraries and pulling from them in multiple simultaneous instances. This RAM performs as well as I need it to and runs as cool as it needs to be. I've come to the conclusion that the fancy cooling fins of "professional" RAM is all just marketing and glam. Get this RAM and forget about concerns of temperature or high profiles interfering. Hassle free.
Pros: I usually take ram for granted, but this I have wild enthusiasm for this particular ram.
* 1.35v, runs cooler than most ram
* VLP: very low profile is perfect for tiniest cases like SG05. I would have had great difficulty fitting my low profile CPU cooler without this low profile feature.
* overclock This ram overclocks surprisingly well.
I was lucky to find a review of this ram complete with a chart showing exactly what timings and speeds this ram could overclock to. It worked perfectly!
Running: 1.5 volt, 9/10/10/27 @ 1866.
Got me about a 4% gain in games, which is the same benefit I got from overclocking my video card. It doesn't sound like much but it was enough to get me into the top 1% of 3dmark firestorm scores posted with my GPU/CPU combination.
Overall Review: A best buy
