is this  32 bit or 64 bit ?

This version of NUC has no hard drive or operating system installed. It is capable of either 32 bit or 64 bit operating system. I installed windows  10  64 bit with no problem.  If you want memory, hard drive and operating system pre-installed then go for another version.

Question 2

How is the win10 licencing set up for this?  The description implies that there's a fully usable licence for windows 10 included, but the "Specifications" tab has an asterisk beside the Windows 10 line, which always makes me nervous...

That option was not available when I purchased mine March this year. I also had a Win 7 & 8 Pro's from PC's  that are not used anymore. Word of caution, if you are planning on installing Win 7 to qualify for the free Win 10 upgrade, the BOXNUC6CAYH comes only with USB 3 and the standard Win 7 Installation only support USB 2. So Win 7 installation will abort. Install Win 8 if you have access to it.  Or go to Download Windows 10, //www-microsoft-com/en-us/software-download/windows10. You can still get a Win 10 copy for free. Just read the document and follow it correctly. See Using the tool to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) to install Windows 10 on a different PC section. You will receive you product key after 30 + days. Hope this help. Question 3

Can this operate with only 1 stick of DDR3 8GB RAM? Does it come with a power cord? Is there an OS included?

1 Stick yes. Go for 2, The NUC will be faster and DDR3 will be getting more expensive.
2- Cord? Yes
3- OS? No. be careful here my I3 runs Win 7, 8, 10, and every Linux I've trown at it. Some later Intel chip sets only run Win 10 and most Linux distros. Go to the Intel site and check compatibly. Love my NUC's

Does this thing have a fan or is it passively cooled?

It does have a fan it's quiet. You cab go into BIOS and tweak fan speed and monitor CPU temp Not worth it IMHO.

Will this work with a single stick of DDR3 8GB RAM?

I’m currently running 2 sticks of 4Gb in mine, and I haven’t attempted using just one 8Gb stick.  The user guide is not really clear on the subject.   However, according to the Compatible Memory list on the Intel site, several 1600 and 1866 MHz  8Gb maodules are listed as having been validated.  Since it supports a max memory of 8Gb, it should support the use of one 8Gb stick.  Intel also states on the System Memory page, “If you plan to install just one SO-DIMM, install it in the lower memory socket.”  You should be good to go.

Does office 2007 and above will work?

That has to do with your Windows version. Bust as long as it's Windows 7 or higher, Office 2007 will work. Word of caution though. 1 out of 5 of these was bad and Intel's warranty department was HORRIBLE. They never sent me the info to ship it back for replacement, and kept closing tickets I opened for the warranty replacement. BAD INTEL.

Question 7

Does the j3455 model have an m.2 slot?  If so, is it SATA or PCIe/nvme?

I bought two of these, but they're running LibeElec off of a USB device.  When I put the RAM in, I don't recall seeing a M.2 slot.  I did see the 2.5" "bay" for a SATA device.    The M.2 may be on the other side of the board.  Intel ARK lists the m.2 slot for the wifi card, but no mention for any SSD capabilities: "M.2 slot with PCIe x1 lane".

Sorry I couldn't help more.  2.5" SATA support is definitely there.  It makes a great appliance type device, but I'm not sure the rest of the system would be a good fit for a lightning fast NVMe device anyway.
