    USB-C/USB Type -A DisplayLink Dock – FAQ

Q: Is this dock compatible with USB Type-A and USB-C ports?

A: Yes, the dock works with computing devices (ex: laptops, tablets, 2-in-1’s, etc.) that have at least one available USB-A 3.0 or USB-C port.

Q: Does this docking station support device charging (i.e. will it charge my laptop)?

A: For USB-C that support Power Delivery, yes. Please check the specs of your laptop so we can help you identify if your USB-C port supports Power Delivery. USB-A docks can only provide data and video but we do sell a power splitter that supports most 20V/60W laptops, see K38310 for more information.

Q: What operating systems does this dock support?

A: Windows 7 or above, macOS 10.14+, Chrome OS 44+

Q: What is DisplayLink technology and is a driver required?

A: DisplayLink technology is a codec (sent over a USB 3.0 Type-A connection) that offers crisp text and graphics. Because the docking station uses DisplayLink technology, you will need to install the DisplayLink Driver before using it. *Please always update your laptop to the latest DisplayLink drver.

Q: Will this dock be compatible with computers that have a Thunderbolt 3 port?

A: Yes, the dock is fully compatible with a laptop that has a Thunderbolt 3 port, however, it will not deliver the maximum bandwidth of Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps), but rather deliver what the dock supports (5Gbps or 10Gbps, depending on docking station).

Q: What if my device has a USB-C port but it doesn’t support DisplayPort Alt Mode?

A: This is one of the reasons why SD4700P, SD4750P and SD4900P are so great! As Hybrid docking stations that leverage DisplayLink technology, even if your USB-C laptop doesn’t support DisplayPort Alt Mode, you’ll still receive video support from our docking stations.

Q: What if my device has a USB-C port but it doesn’t support Power Delivery (PD)?

A: If your USB-C laptop doesn’t support Power Delivery, we do sell a power splitter that supports most 20V/60W laptops, see K38310 for more information.

Q: Does this dock support USB Power Delivery (PD)?

A: Yes, the dock supports USB Power Delivery up to 60W on a single USB-C cable (for compatible USB-C laptops).
