What is DLP?

DLP is basically a series of microscopic mirrors that flick on and off very fast. What happens is the white light produced by the projector is passed through a color filter into at least red, blue, and green light. When you add in these microscopic mirrors the amount of colors the projector can produce jumps to upwards of 16 million.  Basically it just means it can produce a lot of colors.

Can I mount this projector from the ceiling further back than 6'?

You can, it all depends how big your screen is. I'd say mine is a little farther than six feet away.
